Khaldoon: "We don't pay a penny to service debt. That's a sustainable model. UEFA seem to believe otherwise."
Khaldoon: "Financial Fair Play...has a particular model in mind and preserves other models, that I disagree with."
That's the Manchester City chairman in an interview just now, and it sounds like he's having a dig or am I wrong?
Are we being insulted?

Khaldoon: "Financial Fair Play...has a particular model in mind and preserves other models, that I disagree with."
========================================
I think there is a point to be made about FFP and how it may inhibit competition - arguably it benefits our two clubs (United and Arsenal) the most as we have have the largest stadia and seizable revenue, with United significantly ahead of everyone in that respect.
However it's difficult to justify the "fair" in financial fair play when all it does is perptetuate the current footballing hierarchy in this country. I think there needs to be a real discussion about what fair means in this context and what is "morally" best for the game. It's easy to say why financial doping is not a good thing, but are we going to get to the point where clubs are more focused on their revenue than what happens on the pitch (or are we already on the way there)?

I am quite pleased people are having digs at United. The moment to worry would be of we weren't a relevance. I think a lot of rival fans are worried that we will have a no-nonsense manager in place who will not be afraid of egos nor who will have a sentimental attachment to players thus restricting the club. I'd rather be without the debt of course but once it has gone we will become a financial leviathan.

He didn't mention United once, but believe what you wish. Whatever makes you happy.

I think a lot of people have really missed the point he was making.

Ok, having read through the thread, a couple of points.
It is not a dig at United, it is a dig more at owners in general that put loans into clubs rather than equity, which does the complete opposite of protecting the clubs themselves.
In terms of ourselves, we believed all along that we had complied with FFP. However, half way through the monitoring period, Uefa slightly changed the wording to being ambiguity as to whether contracts from pre 2010 were deductible or not (which was only valid under certain circumstances). We believed we had hit that criteria, Uefa effectively didn't and that is the reason we failed. The difference in that was the difference between passing by 2 million or failing by 78 million.
To add, The etihad deal was deemed as not being a related party and no change was made to it like PSGs. The reason why we accepted the sanctions is because the majority of them are suspended fines based on our results this and next season and we are projected to break even.
Are the club annoyed with Uefa? Absolutely and so am I, what Khaldoon says is not a dig at any particular club though, it is a dig at the fact that FFP does not look at all at the balance sheet and a Portsmouth or a Leeds are just as likely to happen now as they have ever been - both of them, just looking at the p&l account, would have passed FFP by a long long way...

Melton is spot on - Khaldoon is criticising UEFA. Much as I would like to believe he is bitter like what I am, I fear he has got too much class for that.
p.s. am loving the lather you little raglets are working yourselves up into. I fear if you make a decent signing it might finish some of you off. Probably Stretty.

Melton save your breath, they were protesting at their owners not long ago.
