Welbeck

I may get stick for this, but I'm honest and I want to say that I really couldn't care less if he leaves this summer. This isn't based on his performance today (well maybe a bit),but last week he refused to rule out a move away and I think it's best we let the guy leave. He's not going to get much game time here in his favored position, and he's really bad out wide which he admits to not liking.

Replace him with someone like Wilson who I believe is comfortable playing anywhere in a forward line, Welbeck just looks clumsy on the ball and awkward in everything he does. We really can do so much better, and I'd rather he left than Chicharito personally. Do you guys honestly think he's what we need to get us back into the top 4? My opinion is all.

Those are his PL stats.

His PL stats say every 162 minutes on the link I posted. But prob just depends on the source you use. His overall stats were a goal every 220 minutes incidentallywhich isn't great

Ignore my stat, I'm still hungover and can't count, I had him down with 10 league goals for some reason.

I still believe though that with games through the middle and allowed to develop he can be a very good player. Any player who plays as irregularly as he does as well as being played out of position would struggle to score or have the confidence to play like he does. A lot of these clumsy mistakes are a result of not being fresh and lacking the confidence which can only be rectified with more games, it applies to every player, it's incredibly hard being a clubs 3rd/4th striker and expecting I be ready whenever you play.

27 goals in 140 odd games says it all for me, his job is to score goals

And the excuse of "he is played wide" runs thin because he can cut in and score like others do but his finishing is absolutely abysmal it's seriously sunday league standard.

He does the difficult things well and sometimes looks a handful but in reality he just cannot be counted on when we need a goal.

Hardly Danny's fault if he is following orders.

I agree I want my wingers to attack but he is purely doing what is asked of him and works his socks off for the team every game.

Play him centrally and as his goal to minutes ratio shows he can score as well as the others.

One purple patch of 6 in 8 doesn't show that.

But tbf that was the only time he was given a run centrally. I can't say for sure that he would replicate that every time but I genuinely feel that with a run of games centrally you would see an improved Welbeck.

Of course whether he will ever get that at United is another matter. I hope he stays as I believe he is a player LVG will enjoy working with.

u speak a lot of sense
imo welbeck needs to accept that he will never displace rooney/rvp as cf. He needs to stop hiding behind the fact he is played out of position and make the lf position his.

remember walcott saying how he wanted to play as a cf, but went on to be one of arsenal best players prior to injury. Welbeck needs to have the same kind of output.

Imho working under LVG will do him a lot of good but only once he accepts he is not yet ready to lead the line. Maybe in 2 years after playing out of his skin he will be ready to lead the line at a team like utd but only time will tell. He has time on his side whether or not he has the patience is a different story

I've always said that he'll play well on the left of a 4-3-3, not playing as an out and out winger but not having to score 25-30 goals a season.

From that position he could score 15 say, and that would constitute a good output from that role, LVG likes to play a 4-3-3 and I think Welbs and Cleverly could benefit from his methods.

agreed
in a 433 I will put good money on rvp/rooney scoring 20+ goals as cf. The lf and rf will need to contribute goals 12+ at bare minimum. Young and valencia are not capable of this and have nothing left to give utd.

Januzaj is our best wideman but needs to add goals to his game. Welbeck has a lot of room to improve and I believe both will under LVG. But adding another guaranteed wideforward is a priority say sanchez or reus
