Shaw..

Following the signing of Rickie Lambert to Liverpool, Southampton posted this on their site:

"Southampton Football Club can confirm that we have received multiple offers for some of our players in the past weeks," a statement on the club's official website read.

"This is a confirmation of the depth of the development that is ongoing in our academy and of the present standing of our first team within the Premier League.

"We are staying true to our plan and vision and, as a result, we have no need to accept any offers. We are deep in the process of appointing a new manager who will continue to move our club forward. It remains our preference not to partake in any transfers until the new manager is in place."

I'm starting to think Shaw might not happen or it's just going to drag for another month..

Would there be any complaints about Shaw's price if we bought him for £30m, but also bought a great CB, CM (or 2) and a RW/LW whilst getting rid of the deadwood?

no i dont think there would to be honest.

people have this major fear that by spending up to 30 million on shaw will mean we cant strengthen elsewhere.

like i said earlier, anyone thinking that we we would spend 30 million on him if we only had a 50 million budget are mad.

The problem is this is highly unlikely to happen, but you are spot on.

People are contradicting themselves

This time last summer you all blamed Woodward for trying to save pennies and offering tame fees.

Now you are all saying we are bidding too high

Who gives a toss how much money a player costs, I for one pay for tickets, so I'd rather see that money go into transfers than the Glazers pockets.

People are not contradicting themselves.

Certain players are rated higher than others by people. Shaw was touted as 15million in January. By the end of the season, his value is now 30 million.

Shaw isn't in the same class as Cesc. People complained about under bidding for Cesc but now we are over bidding for a young left back. And being English doesn't fill me with hope. And just because he has PL experience means jack all. Fellaini, Valencia, Young are a few who have PL experience. Young was smashing up the league and international stage before he joined us and got injured. Shaw could be the next Ashely Cole (playing wise, not as a person) or he could end up as Anderson, Nani and a list of others who we purchased for big money but never achieved their potential.

Cesc for 35-40million is for a class player. Shaw is still only potential and THERE are players who can be bought for cheap and do as well a job, if not better. We don't need to sign a player who will give us 10+ years. We could go for one who gives us 5-7. There will always be another hot thing to come along, English or not.

Personally, I am not bothered whether we sign Shaw or not. I do think the English Media overhype machine has gone to work on him. Lallana also now apprently 30million when a few days ago it was 25million and in January was rated between 10-15million.

English players value increase so quickly. Or should that be PL players?

Just how idiotic a statement is this? What makes you think the Glazers are not going to limit the amount of money spent this year like they have done for the past few years?

i find it idiotic when ppl say they will rather spend the money on players than glazers. To break it down for you, we are left with money to spend on players after the glazers have taken out what they want from the club, not the other way round.

This is brilliant news for the club. Spending a wopping £30m for a left-back, who's had a season and a half in the Premier League at Southampton, will always have been madness.
