Ruining your legacy

David Beckham hints he may resume career with Miami

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27676831

This would be a crying shame if he decided to put his boots on again. It was hard to watch him play the last few months at PSG as his legs had totally gone and he was a shadow of his former self.

Are there any other greats who played too long or came out of retirement when they shouldn't have?

Think deeper though Benched; if Giggs had retired a few years ago would we have signed an adequate replacement who would have made more difference this past season?

Scholes has retired twice and we haven't replaced him yet.

But that's more to do with Fergie's failings. As opposed to calling Scholes out of retirement he should have bought a decent CM in that January window.

I can't remember Giggs winning us many games in his latter years tbh. Seriously rose tinted glasses there imo

By that I don't mean scoring goals but providing key passes and good defensive work. Wasn't up to it in CM against top teams but helped collect 3pts against smaller teams when chasing for the title.

Like Nani?

I meant a CM, as that is where Giggs has been playing for the past 3 seasons.

Ah, like Fellaini...

Haha. Yes...

Put it this way, if Giggs had retired 3 years ago. There would have been one less option for SAF and therefore, slightly more chance of a decent CM having been bought. In the mind of the manager, he is thinking "yes, we have Ando and Clevs, Fletcher, Carrick and Giggs" - one less on the list might, JUST MIGHT have made him think "hang on a minute..."!!!

Just to stop this before it ebnds up being silly, which ever way you look at it SAF should have replaced giggs and Scholes three seasons ago.

At least.

Young wasn't Giggs replacement, by the way. That was another SAF brainfart.

But Ando was Scholes' replacement.

Wasn't it supposed to be Zoran Tosic?

Stop confusing things Elvis!

As VC said, they both should have retired 3 seasons ago (after Nani and Ando had been signed). Without there services available, and considering that Ando has been on the treatment table since he arrived, there would have been more compelling evidence for an additional CM to be signed.

Giggs and Scholes retire earlier and we'd still have Paul P on our books (not Parker)

Off course Becks is a shadow of his former self but that doesn't mean he'll ruin his legacy, it just means he'll be an veteran playing in the MLS.

If that's what makes him happy so what?!
