Do you not believe Shaw has the potential to be a top quality player?
=======
No I do not, Jay
----------------------------------------------------------------------
so why bring in his potential transfer fee ?
Its not relevant if you dont think he is good enough for utd.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is relevant because if I do not think he is good enough, why in the hell would I want the club spending 30m on him?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
they are 2 separate debates
once you have decided he isnt good enough any money paid for him should be too much for you.
Fact of the matter is hes a highly rated 18 year old left back that the club are looking to sign. The point has been made several times in this thread that no matter who we go for in this window we will most likely pay over the odds.

They are related discussions, not separate. Which is why I have said, 12-15m because of his age and nationality is worth a punt to see if it will work.
A player may not be good enough by our standards but at the right price, would be nice to have on the off chance they can do a job in the squad.

you said a while back that the lad had a "miniscule" chance of making it and you want to gamble 15 mill on "an off chance he can do a job in the squad"
we already took that gamble with buttner

so why are you advocating spending 15 mill on a player who you think isnt good enough and will be a squad player at best
posted on 10/6/14
I am not, I am saying because he is English and young we would expect to pay that much if we were going to gamble

so utd desperately need a left back for next season and your solution is to gamble 15 mill on a left back who you think isnt good enough will be a squad player at best.
why because he is young and english

No, that is not my solution. My solution would be to buy someone like Coentrao.
Let's flip this; Utd are in desperate need for a LB to join a defence that has lost its 2 most experienced players and apart from Evans, our entire back 4 is made up of players 25 and below and to strengthen the back 4, we acquire the services of an 18 year old LB with no experience at the highest level for 30m?
That is what you are proposing

Nobodys proposing a 30m outlay on shaw and shaw will have as much experiance at the highest level that irwin had when he signed, if by the highest level you mean the PL/1st div. Theres an old saying if you are good enough you are old enough and clearly a lot of people think this youngster is good enough . Is he worth 30 mill of course he isnt but thats the crazy world of football which you should be used to by now mudd.
