Recent quotes from our former manager regarding Paul Pogba and Toni Kroos
On Pogba:
"If it were possible, I would have tried to bring him back to Manchester United.
"He has flourished in Serie A since joining Juve at the age of 19 but that has been no surprise to those who worked with him at Old Trafford."
On Kroos:
"It is no secret that I had put a lot of groundwork into signing [Kroos] for Manchester United.
"What I like about Kroos is that he plays the ball to penetrate, he doesn't do passing for passing's sake."

Moyes did harp on about signing 5/6 Mata's and it seems Pogba and Kroos would've been two players he would've gone for his summer. Had things gone his way (unlikely), this would've been our midfield/attack come September under Moyes:
------------Kroos-----Pogba-------------
--Mata---------Rooney------Januzaj--
--------------------RVP----------------------
Even Moyes would've found it hard to mess up with that line up. Since Van Gaal has taken over though, it seems he isn't interested in signing a playmaker (Kroos or Fabregas) and is instead, looking at more low key names such as Strootman....
I'm not going to lie, I would love a world class playmaker in our midfield but in Van Gaal, I trust he knows what he wants. With Moyes, even if he had signed 11 world class players, I don't think he quite knew what his style was. Thoughts?

before moyes came in, utd had done a lot of groundwork to sign, strootman, herrera and thiago
moyes koed those deals. Moyes is clueless went from chasing fabregas for 25 million to buying fellani at 28 million
If he was here he would have spent all summer chasing kross and eventually bought leon osman for 45 million.

In midfield his other target was Fabregas. So Fellaini was plan B.

ah yea, i forgot you were in the know
us mere mortals could speculate that there might have been plenty of of CMs we enquired about before they opted for Fellaini.
If only we all got sent player's contract before the guardian and Co even get a sniff of the news

No, just going off what Moyes said, or should we not believe what he said?

Moyes said he wanted to sign Fabregas and wanted to sign Baines and Fellaini.
Fellaini and Fabregas are midfielders, at least Fellaini thinks he is one and Fabregas was unavailable and Moyes went for Fellaini.
My bad, you are right, Fellaini was not his plan B, he was part of his plan A

I would have liked for Moyes to hve signed them and then got sacked, so LVG could work with them.
But it seems LVG seems to want to go Dutch, and we have to put up with that.

From the outside looking in Moyes was done over in the summer. To have a new chief exec at the same time as a new manager, the former having no football experience, is just bad business sense all round.
You then have the Herrera debacle and, for me, he did not want Fellaini as if he did he would have signed him earlier for less money. The deals dropped through (managers don't do the negotiating or draw up the contracts) and he was left with a panic buy in order to appease fans who DEMANDED a big money transfer.

It has to one of Pogba and kroos not both, CM pairing of Pogba and kroos would be too flimsy and will expose the defense.

Not wanting to spoil the party here but firstly I'd be very surprised if you managed to get either and secondly they would be a marked improvement on Carrick and Fellaini.
