It's been reported that Barcelona are still getting to grips with what an upfront payment means. Reports suggest that they will pay the £75m fee, but in instalments and based on performances.
Cue JW Henry asking what they're smoking down there at the Camp Nou? Especially seeing as they've jumped the gun and started selling Suarez shirts when they can't afford the player.
In simple terms the terms of this trade should be set out as follows
1) the fee is the release clause, £75m, not conditional on performances/ appearances
2) the fee is payable upfront, after all we are losing the player immediately and not over months/years
Possible exceptions are :
A) if we get Sanchez for the equivalent fee of £32m we can then look to stagger the payments over the next three years following a one off payment of £15m
B) if Sanchez moves to a club outside the premier league we can then look to stagger the payments over the next three years following a one off payment of £45m
Otherwise... We keep Suarez as FIFA are mulling over a reduced punishment at the request of Barcelona, Chiellini and co, it might be in our interests to do so.
Last chance for Barca, Liverpool hold the cards here, while this is Barca's last transfer window for a year or so due to the impending transfer ban.
Will be good to watch this play out.
Oh dear Barca... !

I took exception to some that felt Liverpool held all the cards, and was their way or the highway (no full fee up front = no deal).

If that's what Liverpool actually want, then that is what we could insist on.

Was just re-reading your article and to be frank you are being utterly deluded if you think Liverpool are getting the full transfer fee up front, and in one payment.
You also forget that the player and both clubs want this deal to go through (I expect for some time).
Suggest waiting until later in the week to see what official information is made available when the transfer is announced.

Christ, it has taken since about 8am this morning to get stuart pearce to see things logically, and yes Red, Suarez is a liverpool player, and Barca must meet what ever criteria the contract stipulates, the fact that they are trying to worm their way around things suggests that they do not have the means to fill the criteria so they should never have put in a bid in the first place.

How so?
If we are within our rights to ask for it and the contract allows for it why is it so incomprehensible?

Look, lets take this rationaly, none of us know what criteria's are in the contract, obviously what ever the criteria's are, they have not been met, otherwise Suarez would be in Barcelona by now signing a nice new contract, LFC obviously put things in place, so that if Suarez was to be sold, they could use the money to buy a replacement of equal quality, what if I bought your car off you and you needed the money you were making to by a replacement, would you except a tenner a week, no you wouldn't, you would want it all so that you could buy a replacement car straight away. Barca are obviously trying to force LFC's hand, they now that LFC want him out, they know he wants to come and Barca are trying to pull one over on LFC by puttuing in thing s like performance related payments and the what not, just because they are Barca and they are used to getting what they want does not mean it will happen this time, LFC are obviously holding out for what they want and UNTIL Barca come up with what they want, they will not get Suarez, I am only stating the obvious here, I cannot see for the life of me why you would think any differently,.
If the criteria's are not met, and LFC do not agree, then it is a non starter.

I have made my points. As I mentioned previously suggest waiting until the transfer is announced later in the week.

I love it when somebody comes out with a load of guff that they don't actually know, such as saying 'we won't get the payment up front' but then when you speculate that you might they tell you to wait until the facts are out.......

Frankly I think you're all moronic for spending 200 comments and a full day debating over the intricacies of a contract that none of you have ever seen
