British Players at City and Chelsea

Have a look at the senior squads of City and Chelsea. There is a glaring lack of British players at those clubs.
Take Chelsea for ex - How many senior British players can you name? Terry, Cahill, Bertrand and I am struggling to name beyond them.
At City they have Milner, Hart, Lescott and Richards.

So we can see that there are very less British players in their squad. United probably have more British players than the two of them combined.
My question is that is it going to affect them anything as long as they fulfill the homegrown quota?
Have we made a huge mistake in recent years going for British players solely based on their nationality. In the past it may have worked for us but considering the lack of British talent in the country its proving to be a wrong decision.

I hate City and Chelsea as rivals (were tbf) but I respect their decision to go abroad for talent then to overpay for local talent.

You said abroad. You're just moving the goal posts now.

All things being equal, talent wise... If the choice is Luke Shaw at £30m, or Luca Shawio for £20m.... I'd rather we paid the extra and got an English player. Not just out of tradition, but also because they will know English football and be less inclined to move to Madrid.

Like woodgate, bale, beckham and Owen would be less inclined?

Make no bones about it if in the next decade real decide they want shaw, they will get shaw, they get there man.

I've never known an English player not to jump at the chance to move to them"

That was my first post of the subject.

It's no shock that British players, generally speaking, would rather play for the big English clubs

Rather than real? Nah I don't think so.

.............

Its a cultural thing Stretty.

I kind of admired Macmanaman and Owen for giving it a go at Real, even Beckham.

Lets be honesT none of those speak English that well.

Scholes and Giggs certainly had the attributes to play abroad but didn't. And Inter had enquired about buff but were told no.

Dependa on the player. Becks didn't really want to leave. Not sure that Owen did either really, but my memory isn't great on that one. Would Gerrard have picked them over LFC? Or Scholes and Giggs over United? What about Wilshere over Arsenal?

n't great on that one. Would Gerrard have picked them over LFC? Or Scholes and Giggs over United? What about Wilshere over Arsenal?

Only one with any certainty I would definatlry say wouldn't go is scholes. Too much of a homebody.

Gerrard was on the brink of a move to Chelsea had real came in when he was handing that transfer request he'd be gone.

Wilshere - yes he'd go in my opinion without any looking back.

And giggs 50/50.

that's because you a borderline racist/xenophobe from India who has zero connection to England, the PL or English teams, therefore don't care what nationality of players they are made up of, as long as they bring a suitable level of glory to keep you interested.

Myself, on the other hand, enjoy the fact that we have had a tradition of having a British core and was glad that looks set to continue, with the signing of Luke Shaw.

He doesn't care about someones nationality, yet you do, but he's the racist/xenophobe?

The logic is strong in you.

Oh and Owen was very keen to leave Liverpool. So much so they had to take a reduce fee of 8 million + antonio Nunez. So the actual value was probably about 4 million because Nunez was so garbage he probably was in the minuses

This article would have been a lot better if the argument made was that English players cost a lot of money as an excuse for replacing them with 'homegrown' players.

I personally like seeing Brits playing for Utd but they should play for Utd because they are good enough, not because they are british.

We also produce very good players, mostly defenders these days but we do and I personally would prefer us to try and develop brits from the academy and invest heavily there to produce talent rather than give another club 30m to produce theirs
