Vermaelen-Help Please

Liverpool fan in peace

I would like to ask if any of you Arsenal fans know anything about Vermaelen and his general situation.
His injury in the world cup, was it serious? Is it expected to keep him out for any time?
His contract is up next summer, is the Man Utd link any serious, or have you heard of any other team that may be genuinely after him?

Whats the price being touted if he was to leave?

Is it likely Wenger will want to bring in a replacement before he lets Verm leave, or will he look for a player using the income from Verm?

No trolling here. Genuine questions for work.

Thank you in advance.

Only Wenger and Vermaelen really know, not anyone here on 606

true, but as arsenal fans youre far more informed about anything arsenal player related than ill be, having read or heard different sources.

As i said, the injury was the main thing that i was interested in, and if it was anything serious or if it was just a "cant continue in the wc" kind of thing (2-3 weeks)

He was labelled 'doubtful' for the quarter final

Pretty sure he will be okay now

Need to bear in mind that Vermaelen has had a series of recurrent injuries since the initial one that gave Koscielny and Mertesacker the chance to play regularly together and for the partnership they have.

There's no way imo that Vermaelen will be considered 1st-choice unless one of Kos or Merts sustains a longterm injury.

I'm dubious about his physical state to be honest, irrespective of his injuries at the World Cup.

So, would you rather wenger went out and bought a centre back that will knock either mertesacker or koscielny to the bench, or someone to back them up?

Any names that may realistically interest you?

Would prefer a player that would improve the team, so if we can get a player better than Mert or Kos that can force their way into the 1st team then excellent.

But as long as the individual is an able deputy then that would suffice.

I wouldn't speculate on names, cos i never even heard of Koscienly before he joined and now he's a french international

Regardless of Vermaelen leaving or not (I do think he'll be sold as it goes), Arsenal could do with another centreback. If Vermaelen leaves, I'd argue strongly that they'd realistically need 2 defenders to act as cover over an entire season.

The problem is, persuading a player (quality player) to move to you, when it's pretty much nailed-on that you won't be considered a 1st-teamer, can prove problematic.

Fabian Schär looks a good bet for me, young, but already has good pedigree.

can't see us selling to you lot though. Not after Suarez slágging match......see more to Man U with a possible swap for Jones/Smalling or Nani...

Thanks anyway

Vermaelen is fragile, great shame, injuries have taken there toll, if I was a another club's supporter I'd be wary of taking him on, and I wouldn't rely on him too much as part of our squad, we definitely should buy a centre back but we won't.
