As it stands

So I think we've all been very impressed on how the team have taken to LVGs new formation/tactics, friendlies or not it's been a massive improvement on a whole in how the team played last season (also take into account the performances last pre season, we were dreadful). Players go on the field and know exactly what they should be doing and we've actually managed to string together a few passes and have an end result on the back of them passes.

Saying all that, there's been a massive difference in the intensity we've played with compared to the teams we have came up against, and this will change when the premier league kicks off. Young has stepped up, as has Fletcher and the young boys at the back have also improved, everyone is stepping up to impress the new manager obviously. Unfortunately I do expect them to find it much more difficult when we play competitive football.

Fitness and injuries to players like Rafael, Evans, Smalling, Jones have always bothered us(already Rafa and Smalling have picked up knocks) so I'm expecting at least one experienced CB to be signed.

Midfield I'm actually starting to think LVG may not feel the need for signings and "get by" with what we have until Jan and we go for Strootman. I'd love us to strengthen right now and go and get Vidal, let Anderson, Fellaini and Cleverley leave and go into the season with Fletch, Herrera, Vidal and Carrick with Kagawa also able to play that role.

I'm willing to give Young a chance under this new system and LVG seems to be backing him also, he can play both sides of the pitch and also up top and can (as we've seen) pop up with the odd goal.

Up front I see a problem with the Mata/Rooney/RVP partnership, I actually think for the 3 to work we must drop one of Rooney or RVP and play Welbeck or Hernandez(really hope we keep Hernandez), they give us that threat in behind that I don't think RVP or Rooney can. But that's a problem for LVG and it's a good problem to have.

I worry for one of the most impressive players last term in Januzaj as if he can't take to the wing back role I can't see where he fits in (don't think he's a better no 10 than mata or kagawa)

Anyway sorry for the long winded article, add opinions as you see fit.

I see Rooney struggling with this system.

...............

All the evidence so far is very heavily stacked against you.

I will assume you really haven't seen much of the pre season.

Thought that was very odd myself.

Only problem with shaw as a LWB is that he's not that good going forward. Never going to beat a man through skill, his defensive part of his game is superior to his offensive.
Strikes me as a strange fit for this system, because there were much better offensive WB's available. Shaw would be best as a standard LB.

I have to say I agree with this, although Shaw has looked quite decent there since the whole training alone fiasco. He seems to be left in a lot of space out on the wing at times, which is probably more to do with how teams set up against our formation than his own doing.

I really thought that Ricardo Rodriguez guy would fit in well as a LWB. From what little I've seen he's got a great cross on him and got 5 goals and 9 assists from LB last season. Plus he's only 21

Liverpool fans expect chelsea to do well yet they are going to lose 3-0 to the mighty werder bremen and chelsea are playing a strong side lol.

I actually think Man utd should be back to a one horse race 2012/13 style league title win.

Would have preferred Rodriguez too. Looks a better all round player than shaw, who is vastly overhyped. Perhaps not quite as defensively strong as shaw, but would suit LVGs system better.

I hate his notion, just because RVP isn't quick doesn't mean he isn't dangerous when given the right service.

In fact he is one if the best on the shoulder of the last man, he just needs to passes in behind.

We aren't playing LVG's system though, we are playing a formation LVG feels he has to play to get the most our of the side. He likes 433

Rooney isnt struggling on the pitch, He was brilliant but he is not getting some of the decisions right which makes this system effective. Mata is the player who is struggling because of it
