What is going on?

We are now 10 days away from the start of the season and the amount of transfer activity or even rumoured transfer activity is laughable.

Leicester have only 22 first team squad members named on the website, of which only 6 are defenders. We are woefully underrepresented in the defensive department and could be incredibly exposed if we suffer injuries to De Laet or Koncheski. Upson has not played all pre-season due to a foot injury so will presumably be some weeks away at best from a first team spot. That leaves Moore, Wasilewski and Morgan for the CB positions, which does not fill me with confidence.

With only four new signings all summer, only one of which we paid any money for, we look very weak in terms of squad depth.

Yes - we ran away with the Championship and the first choice 11 or 12 players look like they may be able to step up and compete, but any injuries and suspensions and the prospects look bleak.

The transfer window does not close for nearly a month and further players may be incoming but I would have liked to see them in place pre-season to integrate with the squad and get up to speed.

In my opinion we need another RB, LB and at least one CB and preferably better players than we already have rather than just support acts.

I fully expected us to do very well and I thought we could win the league because the players would be a year older and NP would bring in the players we needed and he did.

I actually said to my old man after the victory at Millwall that we would win the league and I said after the Derby game that is was a performance of a team who knew they were going to be champions.

I think we need to have a little more faith in what NP is doing because he's proving a lot of people wrong.

Different era and different team and manager, but remember the panic among the fans the year we went up under O'Neill and he only recruited Kasey Keller and Spencer Prior before our big Prem adventure kicked off.

And we ended up 9th and won the League Cup that season...

For anyone who hasn't seen it, here's Pearson's goal against MK Dons. Maybe he could provide defensive cover this season? I know Nigel said the step up would be too big, but if he scores any more like this, he'll be demanding a place in the squad!!

I think we need a player like Cambiasso to shore up the midfield

Now this transfer would literally have me nipping to my bedroom to change my pants.

Exactly what we need!

Please please please let this rumour be true!

I can remember this time last season when, after a low key transfer window so far, people on this board were resigning themselves to a season of mid-table mediocrity. The squad just wasnt good enough - despite leading us to the playoffs the previous season.

In Nigel we trust - yes. The last thing I want to see is a mass of big names coming in and putting a downer on the players that got us here in such style. We still have a way to go until the transfer window closes. Nigel likes to do the bulk of his business earlier so everyone is clear what they are expected to do for the season, no last minute signings of "sorry son, hes got your place in the team now" This also gives Nigel time to assess what he has and plug any gaps that need plugging.

Well it took a little longer this pre-season, but I can't help being reminded of this thread from last year:

Seriously though I am a bit worried. I don't think our squad has the depth of quality required at Premier League level.

Having said that last year I predicted we'd finish 8th after similar inactivity, but play-offs only at a stretch. I just hope than I'm proven worng again this time around.

Joby, very pleased you posted this article again - it shows how utterly ridiculous some leicester fans were being last season. And it seems some of them still haven't learned.

If only the club had listened to Foxello and grabbed Alan Tate before Yeovil did. We could have finished on 105 points rather than 102....

"If only the club had listened to Foxello and grabbed Alan Tate before Yeovil did..."

...we could have been the club who got 291 minutes of match time out of him before having to go online to see if Partmaster Direct stocked a spare hamstring for that model.
