Bringing through youth.

Lets face it, there are some people absoulutey depserate to have youth team players in the squad, for absoulutey inane reasons.

The only thing that should matter is whether that player is or is not good enough or has the potential to be good enough.

not the location of his school, or where he played hop scotch growing up or whether or not he supported the club as a child. Its not relevent at all.

The thing is we have bought through numerous players that have not been up to par. We currently have a couple in the squad, welbeck and cleverly for example.

Giving players game time just because they were bought through the youth set up is not on, they have to be up to the required standard.

Of course if youre not producing the required level of talent you have to go out and buy and for the last god knows how long, we havent bheen, not to manchester utd standard at least.

People desperate to see these kids given a chance ahead of new signings that would be of the required level then these people clearly want the club to gamble with our future.

I said when RVP came when many claimed it put Rooney's nose out of joint, it was NOT Rooney who suffered as they did not play in the same position. Not many would listen

It was Danny who suffered, not Rooney

And how do we know if young players are not of the required standard unless they are given game time. Surely it's worth the "gamble" even though most won't make it. development of the young players negates the need to fork out tens of millions on buying players. I presume you are talking about current first team players that have not shown they are good enought otherwise what's the point

Also, our attacking play whether you agree with this or not is quicker and more direct with Rooney and welbs. Everyone on this site knows my feelings towards Rooney, however there is something about RVP which results in our play being slow. Would go as far as say a bit like Berbatov. I still stand by the fact that one of him/Rooney will be benched come the season. They do not flourish together for me.

I agree Scholay about the Berba type comments. Welbeck creates a bit or urgency and we seem to play better football with him on the pitch - he is suited to playing with the likes of Clevs, Kags, Mata and Roo with quick passing. RvP prefers to keep the ball a bit more.

Thats nonsense. Welbeck offers nothing extra that our squad doesnt posses.
if you want running around than we have Wazza who can do that and still score and assist bucketloads, if you want hold up and link up than RVP is miles better and as for finishing Hernandez is the best.
Welbeck is frankly average and is only there because of his nationality.

Ok. As a poster mentioned above, can you please recommend for us a 4th choice striker who has a better goal scoring record than him in the past three seasons?

Worth noting that this supposed 4th choice striker has started far more of his appearances than he has coming off the bench.

Welbeck scored what 10 goals in that season before rvp came? Maybe a couple more, so let's be generous, 12. That's still not that good considering he was the god damn number 9.

Can't respond with anything of worth so come out with that dross? Good god.

Youth should be given a chance but that should not stop is buying class players or players with great potential. Can do both really.

What I'd rather see is youth given a chance than buying a bench warmer for £15-20m on £100k a week.
