Arsenal agree £15m fee.....

.....with Barcelona

from BBC

'Arsenal have agreed a fee of around £15m with Barcelona for the sale of captain Thomas Vermaelen.
The 28-year-old Belgium centre-back must now agree personal terms and pass a medical.
Vermaelen was a target for Manchester United but they ended their interest after refusing Arsenal's demand to receive a player as part of the deal.
The move to Barcelona is likely to be completed this weekend.'

So which CB do we sign now then?

RVP is top class, TV is okay. More allowances can be made for a top player. Plus our other strikers werent injury prone...

29 league games from both of his last two seasons, where he was first choice.

Injury prone?

Funny thing is we are having a problem bringing in the big names people here mention everyday, most of whom they have not seen play i must add, i know money talks but other clubs can match our spending power and then it comes down to other attractions which thanks to moyes we are lacking the most important, we will struggle to bring in your footba manager big players and the only way we can get ourself back into europe and attract top players is to do shrewd business like what we tried doing with TV or maybe a deal for Nigel de jong, those are the kind of deals we should expect and those are what we will have

Disagree 100%.

If a player can't see past one season out of the CL, at a club with the prestige of United, then we don't want them.

Winston, thing is we have not been signing the kind of players the fan boys on here keep mentioning as a club even when we were in the CL, i don't know why all of a sudden its either those kind of players or failure for us. If the manager wanted him then i wanted him too, am just tired of the fancy names being bandied about.

Fine, but that's a different point to the suggestion that we can't attract top players whilst not in the CL.

TV is injury prone and not better than what we already have. He'd have ended up warning a bench in Manchester instead of London (with a £30k pay rise). We dodged a bullet. If we are looking for back up CBs, just promote M.Keane and Blackett. Maybe Thorpe, too. We need to look at improving on what we have rather than buying expensive squad members.

I'll ask again - 29 games from 38 in the last two seasons that he was first choice.

Injury prone? Really?
