39th Game

Scudamore told the BBC: "The clubs wanted it then and they all would still probably want it now.
"It will happen at some point - whether it is on my watch, who knows?"

What do you think? I'd hate for it to happen. Just don't see how it would work or benefit the game. It's a big no no for me. It just seems that they want to expand the PL brand. Another example of money coming before the game.

I bet the English Man City fans would have been thrilled to be told last season they couldn't be apart of the title presentation because Scudamore wants to improve the PL brand

Scudamore would probably offer them both tickets to go to the match

Exactly, there's no fairness in it. The only way it would work is as an 'exhibition' match after the season.

I can't think any football fan or manager would want this to go ahead. Nor the players either. Too many permutations that could draw fierce (and understandable) criticisms.
Club owners could be swayed by the money I suppose. Depending if they are fighting relegation or not.

The players have what, 2 weeks? off for their holiday, so looking at a few extra days taken off them atleast.

That's what the International Champions Cup has all been about IMO.

Showing how much support (and money) can be drummed up in the USA for Premier League games to played out there one day.

Liverpool playing United and City during pre-season didn't seem right to me, but I think it was show what kind of numbers they could pull in.

I cant see it happening. How do you decide who each team plays?

The fans don't want it and neither do many of the clubs.

Did a bit of digging and found this Elvis:

"Those 10 extra games would be played at five different venues, with cities bidding for the right to stage them.

It is understood the additional fixtures could be determined by a draw but that the top-five teams could be seeded to avoid playing each other. "

That just makes the whole league unfair. It isn't right that one of the smaller teams might have to play one of the big boys 3 times, when another team battling relegation could get a much easier game.

What Mr Scudamore is looking to do is to export our product abroad. The poor soul has forgotten that our product is already exported abroad and is well received.

Rather than waste everyone's time with another league game that would directly influence the positions in the league, why not create a new cup competition where the entrants are from the prem alone.

Call it, the Prem cup or something, then you can play additional games all over the globe, from the arctic to the sahara desert.
