Hummels, di Maria, Khedira, Alonso, Varane

...are the five players Scholes thinks we should sign to turn around our fortunes. Agreed they would improve our team tremendously but 4 players from Real in one window? You're having a laugh Paul. While all would be welcomed additions I'm sure, just would never happen.

This is the most important part in Scholes's article IMO

"It would be hard to land them all. But that is the level that United need at this stage of the transfer window."

I think the part where he said at 38 he was still looking to play is telling. He should have taken that decision out of Fergie's hands like G Nev did

We haven't replaced G Nev either really.

Garry Neville and Scholes are hardly comparable. Neville was becoming a liability, He is lucky not to get red carded in his last two appearances if I remember correctly, there were players who are good enough to take his place in his absence

Scholes was our best midfielder by a mile when he retired, He was our best midfielder by a mile when he came back from retirement(including Pogba). You cant expect a player to retire when he is the best in his position at the club. Its up to the manager to bring in quality replacements when a top player is nearing the end of his career.

Scholes coming back from retirement nearly won us the league that season, Would you rather have him turn his back on the club when the manager needed him?

G Neville should have hung his boots up way before he did, that game against WBA where he finally realised he was past it he was lucky not to have got a red.

I feel that more often than not it should be the manager who makes the decision to tell a player their time's up, they are usually more capable of assessing if a player still has the ability required. Unfortunately for Ferguson he became too sentimental with some of his players which was completely understandable but not helpful for the club.

How have we replaced Gary Neville.

Also, however much I love Rafael and believe on his day he is a great player for us, his injuries mean that he is still a massive risk for us.

Hard to say he has replaced Neville well when he is injured far too often.

I agree in principle with Ginge, but in the real world this isn't going to happen.
