SO it looks as though the reported £64m (inc addons) is set to be completed.

so does the ammount they have spent in the last year mean that they should really be looking to win the league and not just accept top 4.

I remember Chelsea being labled failures for not winning it in 2004 after spending similar amounts.

I for one think that Di Maria will only do well if they sign quicker players in CM to get the ball to him quickly otherwise his pace will be pointless.

Another point would be that when we signed Torres for £50m we all had expectations of him getting at LEAST 20+ goals a season.

Will similar expectations fall on Di Maria?
Not a goalscorer i know but for that outlay you would expect at least 20+ assists with a good 10 goals.

Will the same pressure be put on Di Maria? if he does not do anything for his first 2 or 3 games will the media latch onto it and label him a flop?

I could bet that regardless of what he does, his fee will not be mentioned as much a Torres' has been.

anyway what do we all think? Have they spent too much on him?
would an average of 5 goals and 15 assists per season be worth the £64m paid?
Or will he rip the league to shreads and be worth every penny?

No way is he worth £60m IMO.

This transfer is right up there with us selling Luiz for almost £50, as an example of the selling club holding all the cards and the buying club being desperate.

Spent too much on him, for my mind hes been a bit hit and miss for real

The price + his wages reflect uniteds desperation, they will have to pay him rooney type wages to compensate for the lack of CL football.

Their team is a mess, rooney is highly overrated for what he does and for the wages he gets and RVP is a crock.

Their midfield and defence however is of mid table quality at best they were an absolute shambles at Sunderland on the weekend.

You could argue that Mata is the only genuine quality player they have but as discussed in a thread on the united board, unless surrounded by top players and given a free role with one sole purpose he is very ineffectual.

The long and short of it, if they sign Di Maria only they will still badly struggle. they will be the equivalent of Spurs with Bale , meaning they will still finnish outside a much stronger top 5

they need at least 5 or 6 players, a whole new defence and majority of a midfield.

one more season out of the CL for them regardless I think

Another signing in an area they don't need.

Their transfer dealings have been strange these last 2 years to say the least.
This summer that have spent over 45m on 2 left backs (Rojo is not a cb) and now 60m on a player that means they have to drop mata who they paid 37m for.(No way can all 4 play and LVG will not drop his captain or RVP his fav)
More than that though they just look absolutely shocking. Terrible midfield and awful defense. They should be aiming for top half not top 4.

this

They are so bad

they go away to turf more, a team that against us, pressed us high in the midfield with intensity, That midfield will crumble and their defence is up fro grabs

I literally cannot believe their defence, Rojo got a move based on his world cup and nothing more and daley blind is a youngster. No leaders their what so ever

They could get beat again

He is a CB that can play LB not the other way round

He's worth it imo, but he's useless on his own.

Drop him in that squad now and he'll spend most of his time chasing passes, and covering the full back. In fact he'll probably be a wing back

If they had a midfield with Pogba and Vidal in it everyone would fancy them for the league.

Everyone keeps saying it is not the signing we really needed...

Would you be happy with Valencia, Young and Nani as your options on the wing?!

LVG wouldn't even play wingers because he rated ours so low!

This will allow us to play with wingers again so it certainly was an important transfer.

Fair enough if it happens.
