Line Up

No Rooney? No rvp? Could be a possibility which 48 hrs ago would of seemed insane.

But Having thought about what we could well be looking at this season, provided everyone gets and stays fit it could well be something like this, providing we switch back to 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. Which tbh I think is the best fomations for the players we have.

DDG

Rafa Evans Smalling Shaw

Blind - Herrera

Januzaj - Mata - Di Maria

Falcao

We finally have some decent wingers, so making use of those two is a must. Mata for me will thrive witht these players around him in that hole.

Its unlikely LVG will drop his captain but there is no doubt mata is the more creative number 10 and personally for me the team above is proibably the best we have atm.

Were not gonna be playing more than 45 games max this season, so the need for rotation wont be as strong.

So i would imagine that mata and rooney will be fighting it out for the number 10 birth, and rvp and falcao for the number 9 but im fairly certain that rvp will be off for surgery, he hasnt looked right for a very long time.

Unless we plan on sticking to 3-5-2 of course in which case rooney and falcao we can hope they create a magical partnership, bur for the sake of balance and the players comfort I dont think thats our best bet tbh. The players look lost with the current formation.

Stretty is right in the sense that LVG's favoured position over the years has been 4-3-3. I just hope he isn't too stubborn to revert if this 3-5-2 formation doesn't work out.

Seems atm he's determined to do it that way and prove a point.

How is he supposed to play 4-3-3 without full backs who are injured

I don't mind the look of that side at all.

Anyone who thinks that LVG is going to drop Rooney to the bench is mental. I am sure that he will be rested in a few games, but he will play most of them. Replace Adnan with Rooney and you have your team right there.

As for RVP, I think he will be the one to miss out. Probably more down to injuries than anything. I will be surprised if he plays more than 20 games for us this season.

Agreed Elvis

LVG didn't seem to mind hauling RVP off at the weekend

And to think many of us said RVP will be his king here

How about a Christmas Tree Formation? Seems everyone has thrown up every other formation so thought i'd check and see how the old 4-3-2-1 would look with the players we have.

..................DDG..................
Rafael....Jones....Rojo....Shaw...
..Herrera...Blind...Di Maria..
.......Mata.......Rooney.....
..............Falcao...............

Rafael and Shaw could provide width and pace plus also plenty of pace from left midfield with Di Maria.

I feel Mata can be a star at OT in the right formation. He's viewed as a luxury player but at his best and playing the right areas he creates and also scores so many goals.

Mata is buy far your most important player if you want to get anything out of Falcao as Radamel is not a prolific header of the ball so needs it on the ground and quick Mata is the best and ost imaganitive provider you have. If Mata is dropped you may as well bench Falcao.

Falcao is far better than Rooney as a forward, and Mata is a better provider, more creative and technical. So it makes sense to either push Rooney out wide or put him on the bench.

I still can't believe we've bought probably the best finisher in the World. What a signing.
