NFL Football is back

The NFL starts tonight with the Green Bay Packer @ Seattle Seahawks
This year channel 4 are providing the biggest free to air coverage than ever before. With 21 Live games, 17 Regular season Highlight shows, 3 Playoff Highlight shows and a five part reality sport documentary which started early this morning.

Channel 4 again has the rights to all 17 regular season ‘Sunday Night Football’ games and Super Bowl XLIX from Phoenix Arizona on Sunday 1 February. However all of these games are in the early hours of the morning and are difficult to stay up if you have work the next day or unlike me forget to book Super Bowl Monday off. This year channel 4 are showing all 3 game at Wembley Stadium live, which means their will be 3 game live on free to air TV at a more reasonable hour. The first game on Sunday 28 September sees Miami Dolphins @ Oakland Raiders (KO 18:00), the second on Sunday 26 October sees Detroit Lions @ Atlanta Falcons (KO 13:30) and the final game on Sunday 9 November see Dallas Cowboys @ Jacksonville Jaguars (KO 18:00).

Along with this Channel 4 have moved the regular season highlights show from Saturday Morning to Monday night. Meaning we will not have to wait a full week to see the highlight with the first show this Monday at 23:00, however this means they will miss out the Monday Night Game. Along with this, they will also have Playoff Highlight shows on 6th, 13th and 20th January. Channel 4 are also once again showing Hard Knocks, which is a five part reality sport documentary following the players, coaches and staff of the Atlanta Falcons in the build up to the season. The first part was shown this morning but is available on 4od for those that missed it and the next episode is next Wednesday at 00:55. I also presume channel 4 will put it highlight shows up on 4od (at least - maybe even the Sunday Night game will make it) again this year too.

Again this Season Sky Sports will show ‘Thursday Night Football’ in the early hours of Friday morning along with two Sunday Afternoon games a week (one game at 18:00 and another about 21:00). Sky will also show the 3 Thanksgiving Day games. While Euro Sport will show ‘Monday Night Football’ (again early hours on Tuesday) starting with a double header this Monday. However NFL fans can buy a Game Pass which gives them a bundle of access to all the games and a free mobile/tablet app is available which show brief highlights/analysis, handy for catching up on those Thursday, Sunday and Monday Night games with your breakfast.

Also Sky Sports put the American TV show ‘Total Access’ on their website which is on 6 days a week, providing you news for all the games been at the start of the week and the games coming up as the week goes by and is free to watch.

So this season there is so much more football to access especially if you only watch TV through Freeview and want to watch the NFL for free.

Anyone doing a weekly predictions thread?

Ok Thanks.

I don’t really have a team as such, as in other sports I can say, ‘I’m a die hard ... fan’. I have a mate who has helped me get into the game more the past 3/4 years and he’s been trying to turn me in to a Steelers fan. However I see myself as more of a Patriots follower rather than fan, think this is due to them winning the first Super Bowl game I ever watched or it could just be as simply as they have England in their name. I do also have a thing for the Rams but this is just pure and simple as they have the same nickname as my beloved Derby County! I could however find myself becoming a fan of a team of whoever moved to the UK (if that was to ever happen!). However I guess that could be the NFL's biggest worry, could other UK fans swap their team, to whoever moved to London?

A shame we won't be able to get on Sportsmanu, my two hated teams would be Steelers and Patriots

The NFL is rubbish. Every team basically plays the same formation, the same plays the same everything. The NFL is basically a formula with little to no individuality, flair or excitement.

I would be so much happier if they showed the NCAA instead. So much variety, better match ups, the players care more and the stadiums have a bit of atmosphere.

College football is awesome, but I love both, watch college on Saturday and then pros Sunday gives you an idea of how good the pros really are.
