The times, they are a changin...

The day before they announce a dramatic reduction in business profitability due to further enrichment of the Glazer family share values drop by almost 5%, reversing the modest gains when LVG turned up.

Now they wheel out the old guard to shore up confidence, certainly in terms of on-field performance, in ways unthinkable (and probably unnecessary) under the previous Alex Ferguson regime.

Sign of a desperate PR initiative, or a true reflection of the state of the club, something which both investors and fans alike will likely observe developing over the coming months.?

From United?

Yeah

Falcao will have said something along the lines of "Why would I go to Manchester when I could go to Madrid... and Why would I want to play Milton Keynes Dons on a Wednesday night when I could be playing Malaga's Dons on a Tuesday... and why would I want to look at men with one earring when I could look at women with two... and why ... What's that ???? £2,000,000 upfront and off the record, where do I sign "

Or

"I have waited for this moment and now I am a player for Manchester United," said Falcao.

"For me, it was always a dream to play in the Premier League. Everything is perfect for me.

"I always wanted to be here because the league is very good with very good teams.

Sign of a desperate PR initiative,

.................

The only visible sign of desperation is from you son.

You saw your big chance slip away, and now you have just seen a team not in Europe spend 150 million of it's own money picking up two world class players in the process.

I feel you will remain in our shadow for some time yet.

The Guardian reported that they believe Monaco are play half of his wages, PLUS the 50% of our half that he is missing out on. Which would mean that they are still paying 75% of his wages! I find that crazy if true. I think it more likely that he has taken a 25% pay cut.

But irrespective of whether he has taken a pay cut or we have paid him a golden handshake, he isn't earning more with us than he was at Monaco. So how has he joined us for money?

Considering that Monaco is a much nicer place and he has left a club with CL football, I'd say that he has left for footballing reasons. He obviously didn't want to remain in the French league any more and was happy to sacrifice CL football to play in a bigger league.

So football clubs are charities where we all go and sing kumbaya, do not pay gate receipts etc. Oh, joy, what sweetness.
-------------------------------------------------------

I didn't say football clubs were charities. However most clubs make a loss, and those who do make a profit are a gnats fart away from making a loss. I'll try again to explain - if you had some money and compared the risk and reward of putting it into a football club or putting it into the Building Society - the Building Society would win every time. I know these are difficult concepts for you. Sorry.

Pretty sure that in the 12/13 season 8 PL teams recorded a profit. That is after paying out share dividends. Most will try to run the club at a profit. To say that United are the only club that operate in this way is wide of the mark. It is just that we are the most successful at doing it due so our size.

Quotes attributed to Falcao were that he was signing for the biggest club in the world and that hurt a lot of green-eyed monsters. Do you not think City wanted him,c/l footie, best payers etc? Get over it,United are still the biggest draw in world football bar none, i came back from Brazil a month ago and any United game is gobbled up,same in Usa,Africa,China,Japan etc, etc, etc.
You will get over it as time is a great healer unless you are from Merseyside obviously.

Well, that went entirely to plan.

A simple extract of current news, without embellishment results in an hour of frenzied activity.. all to clarify what I understood did not need clarifying.

A gut wrenching reaction from the die-hards, in the hope it assuages that nagging suspicion and fear of falling short this season once more.

Cheers guys.. much appreciated.
