Ozil

Is he Arsenal's version of Torres?

There is one side of the fanbase making various excuses for his performances including he is played out of position, doesn't have the right kind of players, what he does is very subtle and requires higher footballing intelligence, etc.

And the other side who have clearly started realising that its money down the drain.

He does seem to be totally shot of confidence or uninterested, possibly a combination of both.

I haven’t watch much of Arsenal yet this season (aside from the City game), by out of position we’re talking on the left of midfield aren’t we? That should have little impact for a player of his type, Modric and Kranjcar are players of similar style who have been accommodated on the left and thrived. Zidane was shifted to the left for France when they had Viera and Petit inside, even Poyet who’d I’d think of as more of a playing style that would suffer did a decent job on the left when we had Wise and Di Matteo inside.

He is a brilliant player, I remember watching him tear England apart in the Euro U21 final and he was the star man but he looks off the pace and power of the PL.

With Torres we knew he was playing but Ozil just goes missing

I don't think he's been as bad as people make out but I think it's definitely been a shock to the system moving to this league. Going from 60 mins a game in a side that will dominate almost every team it comes up against to having to battle in a more physical league and play longer games seems to be taking its toll. Only time will tell if he's capable of fully adapting and reaching the potential he can reach.

I certainly think this is a different scenario than Torres as he already established himself in the league before flopping. Certainly proves that PL experience isn't always as a big a factor as some people make out.

Right wing but your point is valid.

I think his issue is that he is more of a pure No. 10 like Mata and wont/cant do any sort of defensive work even though they try best.

The modern game has moved on from players having a free role, its all about attacking and defending as a unit.

No, he's is a good player just in a rut of form, it happens, remember Didier all the way through 2008?

Just play him in the no10 role and stop peeing about Wenger.

---------Welbeck-----
Alexis---Ozil---Walcot
----Ramsey-DM--------

If we play that formation and he still looks like tripe then i reckon its time to start calling him a flop.

Wenger trying too hard to get Ramsey and Wilshere i to the same line up. They're both good young players seen as the future of the club but can't sacrifise the teams performance and other players just for these 2

To play him in the free role No. 10, then you need solid defensive midfielders, not Arteta

They need to put a GPS on Ozil as he goes missing in the big games.
