I'm not saying whether they were or not because I'm not a tactical genius like most of the Gooners on here, so I'm asking you guys and rival fans who watched the game as well. Chelsea away is probably the most difficult fixture in the PL. We matched them for most of the game and played pretty well, controlled a lot of the first half. So if we managed to do that I don't get how our tactics were wrong, unless we're expected to outplay Chelsea on their own ground?
Wenger's been criticised for not adapting our approach and being too open in big games, today we were solid and never got blown away. The second goal came when we had nothing to lose and had to chase the game. It's possible to play the right tactics and still lose the game because things are decided on fine margins and whoever takes their chances, Chelsea took their chances so fair play to them.
From the performance there's nothing to be depressed about because we proved we're a good team the same way we did against City, from what I've seen so far I think we'll challenge for the title as there's no other teams miles ahead of us. The game against City annoys me more because we should be winning home games against any team especially when we're the better team, away against teams like Chelsea I accept a loss is a real possibility regardless of how well we play.
Chelsea defensively are world class and when they're ahead they are very difficult to break down, so the Hazard goal was the important moment. If we scored before then things are different, but we didn't so it doesn't matter... but was that down to tactics or individual skill of a great player?

a lot of clubs are disappointed with the start and only 5 points separate 2nd through 12th. one win or one loss can jump up or down nearly half the table.
early doors and the start of seasons don't reflect form or the entire season by any sane assessment.

I don't think so. It's not rocket science, sit deep, close down the space in our own half, try to play on the break.
What actually cost us were having a 19 year old playing against one of the best attacking mids in the game, and a set of awful substitutions.

Yeah we have to improve that Castor, it's embarrassing for Wenger. If he can't sort it out then he has to go. We have more match winners in the team now and Theo to come back, there's too much talent in our squad to write off our chances.
