Sky News Breaking: Update - two people being monitored in Madrid under suspicion of #ebola infection and 22 of Spanish nurse's contacts identified.
Is anyone worried that it will eventually reach the UK? I've not seen so much panic since swine flu, and I don't really understand how dangerous Ebola actually is. Can it be contained?

Nigeria contained Ebola, I am pretty sure we can do the same. Stop buying into the propaganda

Couple of points:
Firstly, ebola is not contagious until the infected individual starts to show symptoms, and becomes increasingly so as the disease progresses, even after the patient dies.
Secondly, staying clear of ebola isn't about observing general hygiene practices, it's more about having the appropriate means and resources.
The virus is present in the wild, and most outbreaks are thought to begin when humans hunt and eat infected animals.
It's a hemorrhagic virus, which means that in its later stages it causes widespread internal bleeding. Patients generally die from multiple organ failure, by which time the virus will have found its way out of the body in many ways, not just faeces. Many patients, for example, will have coughed up significant amounts of blood.
Health workers who have to treat symptomatic patients need to scrupulously follow strict protocols, and have both adequate training and the necessary resources to prevent contagion.
The general public meantime needs to be properly informed as to how they can and how they can't catch the disease, and what exactly to do should they or someone they know start to show symptoms of the disease.
Can ebola be contained? With the appropriate resources, protocol, training and education, yes, definitely. It has been on many occasions. Medecins Sans Frontieres had been containing outbreaks of ebola and other hemorrhagic fevers (e.g. Marburg virus) successfully for over twenty years, in which time they had not reported a single infection of the medical staff treating patients.
