There have been some right stinkers that have graced the halls of Highbury and Emirates over the time I’ve watched the Arsenal. To name every god awful player would probably take most of the day, but what are your top 5 of the worst Arsenal players you’ve ever witnessed? I’ll list mine down and let’s see what we can come up with.
1. Glenn Helder – I’m pretty sure George Graham signed Helder as a sort of WUM, as in a week GG was out of Arsenal, for good. I remember being excited. After all, Helder was cut from the much heralded Ajax youth Academy. I’ve watched Helder a few times live and I can quite honestly say he probably is the most atrocious footballer I’ve come across. Think Gervinho, but dutch and even more shít. Later on his career, Helder was imprisoned for threatening his ex-girlfriend and was subsequently sent to a mental asylum.
2. Kaba Diawara – It’s pretty damn difficult to think of a worse striker Arsenal have had than Olivier Giroud. I still haven’t a clue what prompted Wenger into thinking we needed Diawara. His past record suggested he was nothing better than awful, and the rest of his career proved it. Diawara never scored for Arsenal, and never looked likely to. Him and Christopher Wreh is probably the worst striking partnership ever to grace the green of Highbury.
3. Olivier Giroud – It’s quite remarkable, but the list of main strikers under the Wenger years is Wright, Bergkamp, Anelka, Henry, Eduardo, Adebayor and finally Robin Van Persie. Quite how Giroud managed to convince Wenger that he could kick a ball, let alone become Arsenal’s first choice striker for 2 and a half years is beyond most sane individuals. Apart from cheating on his wife, Giroud’s other main attributes include flicking the ball, shooting from 40 yards, missing easy chances, and looking slower than road kill.
4. Igor Stepanovs– Stepanovs is probably the worst defender Wenger has ever signed. And when you consider we’ve had Luzhny, Vivas, Cygan and Koscielny, that’s really saying something. The crowning moment for Stepanovs came when United thrashed Arsenal 6-1, at Old Trafford. Quite remarkable to think that Stepanovs actually has a Premier League title winners medal.
5. Abou Diaby – During the George Graham years, there was plenty of awful players flying about. But they were either quickly dispensed or faded away. However, one of the most annoying attributes of Wenger is his ability to stick with his dross for years before he finally clocks on to the fact that they are utter gash. Why Abou Diaby remains in this club is a deep mystery. Technically Diaby is suspect. His only real claim to fame is 1 game against Liverpool. But it’s his inability to remain injury free after walking 50 yards that he is on this list. In 9 years at the club, Diaby has played 124 games. That is pound for pound the worst ratio I have ever seen.
Over to you lads
Honourable mentions: Sebastien Squillci, Jimmy Carter (1991-95), Chris Kiwomya, Eddie McGoldrick

Don't get giroud hate in article, no where near worst player list. Gets goals, sets up goals. Needs Walcott alongside to support and sanchez or Ozil being clever in passes. Will be needed especially if chasing a game and need a plan B sub

I used to be on 606 but just registered on JA just so I can throw John Hawley into the mix. He was ca.1982 vintage and was truly diabolical. Anyone who thinks Giroud should be on this list has to check Hawley out and some of the other Arsenal strikers knocking around at that time - Raphael Meade anyone?!

There were quite a few in the 80s and 90s who came in and made one appearance and then disappeared because they were so dire. But theres no way I'll remember names now after so many alcohol fuelled brain destroying years.
A couple of recent ones:
Julio Baptiste (after that Liverpool game)
Andre Santos
Denilson and his backward passes.

Almunia, hands down.
I'll never forget the dread I felt whenever he started. Worst feeling in football, and he cost us so many important games. Don't think I'll ever forgive Wenger for persisting with that utter clown.
