* The deal was finalized on October 22nd, which is when he was completely free from WWE. Punk said signing with UFC was an easy decision. The deal had been in the works for a while. Punk was supposed to the "major announcement" for last month's press conference but the deal wasn't done in time.

CM Punk Talks Not Fighting Until He's Ready, Having Butterflies Over His UFC Debut, More
By Marc Middleton
Dec 7, 2014 - 1:30:03 AM

- Former WWE Superstar CM Punk appeared on the FOX Sports 1 UFC 181 post-show tonight. Punk talked with Ariel Helwani about signing with the company. Below are some highlights:

* Punk said he's been a fan of UFC for a long time and it's been in the back of his mind for a while. He's fortunate enough to be here now and re-evaluate things. He said he took one fork in the road earlier in life and now he's here to take the other fork.

* He said if anyone is more excited than him, it's UFC bosses Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta. They came to Chicago and met.

* Punk didn't want to reach out to UFC until he was free & clear from WWE but they had small casual conversations before that.

* Regarding people saying he doesn't deserve to be in the Octagon because of his record, Punk says he understands that opinion and it's his job to change people's minds. He says that won't be one of his hang-ups and he's not going to deal with negativity. Punk says there needs to be fighters that call him out but he hopes someone can be more creative than the "fake wrestler" diss.

* When his debut happens is up in the air. He says he won't fight until he's ready and he has Dana & Lorenzo's word on that. He knows he has a short window but won't jump into something he knows he's not ready. He says he could train every day for 6 months or so.

* He said it feels like a dream come true and it's the first time he's felt butterflies in a long time. He also said it's the first time he's been nervous in a long time. He mentioned a lot of people including his lovely wife AJ Lee supporting him. He did not say her name.

Dana White also spoke to Helwani and said he agrees with people who point out that Punk has 0 fights and isn't like a Brock Lesnar type of fighter with a collegiate background. White also said he's skeptical of Punk in the UFC. Kenny Florian also spoke about Punk and said he should be thrown into the Octagon with someone that has the same record, 0-0. Michael Bisping, who called Punk out on Twitter earlier, said he has nothing against Punk but is here if Punk wants to do the fight.

CM Punk, the former WWE Superstar, has dramatically signed a contract to fight in the UFC in 2015.

The former professional wrestling champion, who left the WWE in the summer, has no experience fighting in mixed martial arts but makes the giant leap to the world's foremost MMA organisation.

The 36-year-old is expected to make his debut in the first half of next year and will likely compete in the welterweight or middleweight divisions. No opponent has been lined up yet for what will undoubtedly be a major crossover moment in the worlds of WWE and UFC.

Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, will follow in the footsteps of Brock Lesnar who also swapped the ring for the Octagon in 2008. Lesnar ultimately won the UFC heavyweight championship largely on account of his competitive wrestling background prior to his stint in WWE, a base that Punk will not have.

Little is known about Punk's MMA training although he has made no secret of his jiu-jitsu acumen - the grappling art that forms a UFC fighter's core skillset.
