Despite winning only our third league home game of the season I like
many last night was so frustrated about our freekicks and corners.
We won numerous freekicks in the QPR half and most were 35yards
plus from goal.Out of those freekicks not one was played into the box.
What advantage do we get as a team to constantly play a 5 yard ball
that after 4 touches ends up back with Howard.
Our corners are also a joke, bring up both centre backs and then every time we play a short corner routine that often ends up with us having possession in our own half with both Jags and Distin having to chase back.I can count on one hand the amount of inswinging corners I have seen at Goodison this season.
I feel sorry for Lukaku as he's the type of player who thrives on crosses and running onto through balls facing goal, all he now seems to do is either flick on the odd ball and hold up the ball with his back to goal for others.
Another thing about last night was that QPR were there for a good tonking, but as soon as we went 3-0 up we sat back and let them back into the game.
We should be more ruthless in these circumstances as even giving the poorest team a glimmer of hope can come back to haunt us.
Anyway a good win for us last night, but we have not once this season performed like we did last.I hope we can build up some momentum as at the moment where we are in the league is about right for the way we have played so far this season
My pet hates about how we play.

Well your view on things are a little different to mine and I am not going to go into the fine details. But we did the same last year, do you want the school of science or Moyes football. As for Rom, waste of £28m???
He has as many goals as United's experienced Rooney
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I personally would like to see more tempo in our game as at the moment the slow build up allows our opponents to get as many men as they want behind the ball to stifle our attacks.
A bit of variation to make us less predictable isn't a bad thing,or do you think differently?

For me we already have variation.
Wise men and FB's with pace and ability to beat a man. A striker who can run at defences or hold the ball up. Midfield players who can drive and play tippy tappy football and the key to it all Naismith.
I better not disagree however or a certain poster will create another article and claim I bully folk

You are talking about a variation of players and not tactics.
When we have players like Baines and Barkley who are capable of delivering quality crosses into the box from dead ball situations and also open play then why do they not cross the ball.
Lukaku is an ideal type of player to have on the end of a cross and yet in most games he gets crumbs to feed on.
You suggest it's either school of science OR Moyes up an at em,I suggest that a variation or a bit of a fusion of the 2 could and would work.
Why buy a goalscorer and starve him of service?

No, I am talking about the variation we have. We played differently at home against the Russians and QPR.

rival fan in
your playing style has not changed at all, the tempo has just dropped a bit and some players like Baines are not playing at the same level as last season.
At the end of the day your manager is not like Wenger and he sees the drop in quality but part of being a good manager is to be patient and build up the team for the crucial periods of the season.
You will almost go far in europe and probably have a good run in the FA cup. Doubt you will get top 4 but europa may be your route to the champions league. I genuinely think it is a competition you can win when you consider Martinez record against the top teams in england.
Lets face it thats his aim this season and it is something achievable. Watching your lot I am beginning to understand why Spurs have been handicapped by europa the last few seasons.
It cant be easy motivating your team for 2 games a week and expect the same level of intensity.
At the moment points are crucial.Performance will matter at the business end. Teams like united who only play once a week should worry about performance as they have no distractions at all.

Could that be down to playing almost the entire second string(some playing for fitness some out of position) in a dead rubber game by any chance?

Arouna I mean't it was a waste of a large fee if all you are going to do is play a proven goal scorer like Lukaku with his back to goal. We sit just behind the goal in Gwladys Street and this is far from first time we have played Lukaku like this. Remember when we used to say feed the Yak, well feed Lukaku. I actually thought Kone did more in 4 minutes.

It was a big fee for Rom, but he is a talent and plays the way Bobby wants him to. He is a goals scorer and has a better goals/game ratio than the world class sturridge.
But the way martinez wants to play means that sometimes he plays with his back to goal, I don't want him to be target man/bang it in the box type. He is so much more than that but like Barkley has a lot to learn.
Kone has done well, he has never been a bad player, can't believe our fans gave him so much grief

It is all about the way we play and other sides have us sussed now, even against QPR some of those around me were actually booing at times especially when we get a free kick on the edge of their box and it ends up back in Howards arms. Look at today at Southampton 56 percent possess and get beat 3-0.

Dunc it's not so much of the ball you have, but more what you do with it. Imo Martinez needs to realise this.
