Finally...

Louis van Gaal revealed he keeps a detailed account of the game so he can pass his observations on to the players.

He said: “(I write) for half-time. I can say the things that I am willing to say that can influence the match. Then the sequence is always the right way because the players remember the moments of the game in sequence. It’s more efficient then.

“Sometimes players can’t read the match, it’s not their quality. I have players who can read the match very well but there are others who cannot read the match for the team; for themselves they can read the match but for the team it is more difficult.

That is interesting and explains his unwillingness to get off the bench and bark orders or make changes early on in games. Not great when you are already a couple of goals behind at half time though. Surely you just use the players that can read the game to get the change in tactics over to those they can't? One thing I like about Jose is that he'll change things early if his tactics aren't working out the way he'd envisaged.

To be fair to LvG he has made early changes in games. Subs and tactics

Paddy McNair basically asked him to come off that time

And there was me thinking he was doing Sudoko.

My only question is whether notes are useful in the second half?

What you going to do, tell the players at FT where they are going wrong tactically? The game is finished by then.

Fair enough it can be used in post game analysis, but surely the present game is the one that needs full attention?

Send Giggsy down to the touchline? It does irk me that the opposition manager is down there, reminding the 4th official and ref that he's there.

I imagine it's unsettling for the opposition managers/players too.

LVG should pull out a cigar and send his team smoke signals.
