Champions League Sucks Sometimes

So we get a group with Benfica, Basel and Who gives a Fckalati - and while it's clear the group doesn't pose much of a challenge.......is that it? Is that all we want from the draw or from the group stages?

The draw fills me with massive disappointment. The most excitement we'll get is against Benfica, and although they'll provide some entertainment, I feel that we'll still be too good for them. More than that, I think the results against the other teams will mean we'll probably top the group without breaking a sweat.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not coming at this from a point of arrogance, more a feeling of being short changed in this competition. I would love us to have a Valencia, an AC Milan or a Villareal, or Napoli or an Ajax in our group stages. We are so wrapped up in the winning that we seem to have forgotten the enjoyment from the competitive nature of the game. And after all. if we are good enough then we should be testing ourselves against these teams and beating them.

And it's not just United, the only groups you can call questionable in terms of predicting the top 2 are groups A, D and F. The rest are pretty obvious before a ball's been kicked. And to be honest I'd rather have my team in groups A, D or F than C because the fans of those teams will more than likely have a greater experience of adrenalin and competitive footballing entertainment than those in the other groups (barring the ocassional clash of the titans in a couple of other groups). Over the years I've come to believe the group stages are a waste of time and only serve as a money making exercise.
