Over the 95 minutes we barely deserved a point but we got one and kept our unbeaten run going. We haven't played well in any game since Sako went to Africa and recent results do hide how damaging it would be to any play off ambitions if we lost him in the next couple of days.
We made a bright start yesterday and had Bolton under some pressure in the last 5 minutes but the Middle 85 minutes we were clearly second best and never got a grip of midfield. Afobe looks decent but we haven't found the way of getting the best out of him yet and I still don't think it works playing him, Dicko and Edwards. When Sako returns there is a decision to be made there.
And on the right VLP and Henry are both very inconsistent. Rajiv did little yesterday and Henry who had been poor in recent games came on and did well and scored a greAt goal. Seems he is a much better player when fresh and struggles to maintain s good standard if he plays more than 2 games running.
Defensively we didn't look as solid yesterday and i would have stuck with Iorfa and Hause although Dominic was limping when he went off.

Golbourne would come closer to the team than most but wouldn’t get ahead of Ward, Sako would come close but wouldn’t be ahead of Jarvis, Stearman (now) would get in ahead of Berra (then) other than that 2014/15 is well behind 08/09.

Like Golbourne, but agree not as good as Ward at his best. Sako, on the other hand, I think is as good as Jarvis ever was. Liked Jarvis, but how many did he score? And did he provide anymore than Sako? Always difficult to compare players playing in different leagues of course. Berra, never really rated him that much, Stearman now is better than Berra ever was, regardless of the opposition.
How about comparing keepers? Ikeme better than Hennessey? Both good keepers in my books.

Difficult to call Hennessey v Ikeme.

The goals from Saturday.

Our first goal was a disgrace and it makes me wonder what Jackett spends his time on on the training field.
I quick ball out of defence like that is going to lead to one of two things – we either give the ball away which means we lose possession OR we score which means we lose possession. If was Jackett I’d drop McD for the next game and play someone who knows how to pass it sideways properly.

I know I am in a minority on here with this but I think Berra was under rated and was selected ahead of Stearman then and would be now in my book. As well as Stearman is playing now I would be surprised if he retained his place in the team if we got promoted. And I think Danny Batth would.
Stearman impresses dribbling out of defence and doing heroic blocks. But to me he just isn't as solid a defender as Batth or Berra and to me that's the most important thing you want from a centre back

I agree and disagree DJ. I think Berra was underrated but I think Stearman is a more complete defender than either him or (at the moment) Batth.
Batth still has a bit of time until he gets into his peak years so it will be very interesting to see how far he <cough England cough captain cough> goes.

I think Batth is strong and commanding however does tend to get turned too easily. Bolton's second goal is a prime example, where a drop of the shoulder from a striker seems to create so much space to get a shot away, which should never happen on the edge of the six yard box. His distribution is also poor.
However, that's where the two complement each other so well as I think Stearman is good in that sort of situation, is good at covering in behind and making vital last ditch interceptions and blocks. He also is good on the ball.
Centre backs work in partnerships and just as a bad partnership can make a player look terrible, a good partnership can make them look excellent. Scott Dann and Roger Johnson at Blues were a perfect example of this.

I thought Batth stood too far off the Bolton player on Saturday but I thought that was very untypical of him. I actually think Stearman is much more easily turned because of his lack of strength.
Different opinions but I agree entirely about your point about partnerships Tam and they are the best pair for us now

Agree with tam, stears and batth work great together.
As for comparisons, impossible to say, these guys haven't had the same time yet, so by default they haven't proved anything, but that doesn't mean they never will.
For me golbourne is a more natural left back than Ward and doesn't back off nearly half as much, Wards best asset was getting forward, not his defensive work.
Golbourne has been a big success for us so far and I am surprised anyone would try and find fault, and the notion he gets some blame for Saturday is just laughable.
