Hi guys, away from the doom and gloom among some on the Utd board, I was wondering if you guys could help me with some research.
This was posted in another article and credit must go to RedDevil7 for raising what is a fascinating query;
"Has any side that finished 7th the previous season, new manager with new staff and a turnaround of about 20 players, 20 players!!!!!!!!! Been an instant success??"
I had a long think about it and cannot think of anyone, could you please assist?
For bonus points, can you also consider how teams fare with 70 injuries to key players over a season?
Many thanks

Juventus undoubtedly the biggest team in a shocking Italian league doing that is gona be alot easier than Utd in a competitive English Premier League.

It would be unheard of for a team that finished 7th to challenge for the league to be fair.

LVG had a fully fit squad(almost) for months and we are 10 months in to the season. These excuses maybe valid 4 months ago but not anymore. There is no excuse for a manager for failing to implement an effective game plan best suited to the squad after being in charge for 10 months.
If we fail to get top four its mainly down to the incompetence of LVG.He made too many mistakes and took an age to rectify them. He seem to be in the right path at the moment but it could be too far too late.

Which months has he had this fully fit squad?

Fully fit squad for months, come on for God sake. Implementing Blind, Rojo, Herrera, Di Maria, players who need to time adjust to football and life in England. Luke Shaw a 19 year old will need time to adjust to the pressure of being at a team like Utd. A squad that lost a good 10 first team players in the summer. 10 months isnt that long to get that sorted mate.

We had a fully fit squad(almost) since January.
10 months is enough time. Jose in his first season didnt need 10 months. Koeman didnt take 10 months.
LVG isnt getting the best out of the squad. His team setup exposed all the weakness in our players rather than getting the best out of them.
Luke shaw would have settled in far better if LVG didnt try to turn him in to wing back early in the season

Are you seriously comparing Southampton to Utd? When teams play us and Southampton, how do they set up?
He has had a fully fit squad since January? Shaw, Carrick? Rafael?
You say he is not getting the best out of the squad but has them with more points, in the top 4 and conceding less goals.
This is not a quick fix, people need to get that.
Southampton are falling off the cliff by the way. Mourinho failed last season as well. Pellegrini is failing in this one and Wenger's team is just a point ahead of us.

Clubs may change but the basics of coaching remains the same. Lack of an effective offensive or defensive game plan has been the main reason behind our lackluster performances. Jose, Koeman and even rodgers to a certain extend showed that its not impossible to implement an effective system while integrating few new/foreign players in to the squad.
Nobody is saying itll be a cake walk, but a highly decorated manager earning top dollar at top club should be doing better.

Considering we are within touching distance of second place he is doing a decent job

He is doing a decent job results wise(so far), He is not doing a decent job performance wise(so far). Performances usually catch up with results at some point during the season, which is the reason Im not looking forward to our next set of fixtures
