Breaking Bad

What are your thoughts on this TV series?

Many critics praise this series as one of the best of all time. I am currently entering the last portion of the 3rd season, and though I've been very impressed with it, I have to say I don't think it is worthy of that kind of praise. To me, it's very good, but the characters beyond Walter White and Jessie are all a bit too thin and simple. I feel as though Walter carries the series more than he should. I don't care anything about the other members of the main cast beyond the two I've mentioned.

I believe that the best series I've watched can spread the weight of viewer interest more broadly than this one does. It's excellent, but not one of the best for me.

Sons of Anarchy is a better recent tv series in my view, though there is a serious mid series lul in quality in that one too.

I love opening credits to Oz, sums up every episode in about 90 seconds

The five minute montage that opens Season 2 of The Sopranos is classic as well.

I watched the very first episode of Oz, thought the writing/dialogue was awful, and didn't go back to it...without spoilers, should I make the effort?

Oh really? most people I've spoken to who have seen Oz really enjoyed it, the characters change but the basic story stays the same, if you didn't like the first series then I wouldn't recommend the rest of them.

couldn't get past the first episode, i know first episodes are tricky, trying to introduce dozens of characters in 40 minutes, but it just seemed so clunky ("oh look, it's notorious murderer xyz....yes, he is a very bad man, the way he killed those people" etc).

but it might be my next stop when i get bored of heroes, though i should really go back to the shield, watched series one, got distracted, and never went back.

Don. I was a massive fan of Oz and Heroes. The thing with Oz is that the first episode was a pilot and these things are usually pretty clunky. Stick with it and accept the world it's set in and as the episodes/series' go on it will grip you.

The acting is superb and the storylines go in some of the darkest places i've ever seen on a TV show. Very clever and the best thing I can say about it is that each episode whether it's episode 2 or episode 8 of the series, ANYONE can die. Pretty scary if you like a certain character.

I loved Heroes. So many people turned off after series 1 finished because the writing strike pretty much torpedoed the show after series 2 but unlike most I kind of liked where it went in series 2/3. Series 4 is a bit shaky but even that wasn't as bad as some say.

Have seen most things and the wire is far and away the best tv series ever created (edging out sopranos)

I have watched the whole thing twice and second time round I picked up so much more. It's attention to detail is outstanding and its so clever and intricate

Breaking bad is good but didn't like last season. Dexter was dumb by the end
