Time to try out 3-5-2?

Sandy mentioned on another article that he would have lined up with 3 CBs and go 3-5-2 which i thought was a good shout

I've always liked this formation from the early 90's when i started to watch football when a lot Italian teams would play this system

Brendan recently switched to 3 at the back with great effect. He has Jordan Ibe and Moreno running the flanks and has added a bit of much needed steel to his defense.

Is it time for us to do the same? We have problems defending the goal, and our goal difference could be a lot worse than it currently is if it wasn't for some heroics from Hugo

You could also argue that it would play to Rose and Walkers strengths a lot more. Both are fast, not particularly good defenders, and in Rose's case, a former winger. They're both often out of position anyway, so i think there is definitely an argument for giving them more remit to stay further up the pitch.

Something like:

Stambouli or Mason or Capoue providing the legs in the middle of the park.

---------------------------------Lloris-------------------------------

-------------Dier--------------Fazio--------------Verts-----------

---Walker-----------------------------------------------------Rose
-----------------------------Stambouli----------------------------
----------------Bentaleb-------------------Mason---------------
-------------------------------Eriksen------------------------------
--------------------------------Kane-------------------------------

Our bench would have more options on it as well playing this way, as an attacking player would have to be sacrificed in order to accommodate the extra CB.

Thoughts?

Two centre forwards too for me, Eriksen would be at the head of the three in midfield.

that line up just means we have 5 joke defenders instead of 4.

calamity all over the shop.

I was surprised Fazio was not included against United to deal with their main threat Fellaini, (unless he was injured of course) Poch picking the same team is all good and well but sometimes you have to look to stop the opposition, especially away from home.

agree with this. not sure which out of vertonghen and dier needs the chop though.

would probably give Dier a chance with Fazio. Vertonghen is just annoying me at the moment.

Think we might have started Old Trafford with 4-5-1.
Or even 5-5-0 for all the support Kane got up front.

Poch is a former international defender, he does not appear to be improving our sieve like defence at all, in fact it seems to be getting worse. Maybe our defenders are just shart.

I love the option especially when someone like Dier can alternate between CB and CDM it does offer another option

Our CBs are so shocking that it’s bad enough we have to play 2, i could not think of anything worse than having to play 3.

It’s a definite no from me...

Yup, and in Liverpool's case the 3rd "CB" is Emre Can, a midfielder by trade?

It's just a case of more bodies = more protection, nothing overly scientific about it. Although whether we have enough going forward is a sticking point, i don't think we do with two dormant strikers in Ade and Loldado

Really ballsy from Rodgers, as well as dropping Gerrard, to change a system Moreno has benefited massively, he looked suspect in the earlier games i saw him in, now he looks a real threat. Rose is also pretty good going fwd, but not so good under attack at the back. Tim pushed Walker fwd for one game too, against Chelsea i think.
