Fear of Flying

Rather ignorant and selfish of me to question people who have a fear of flying and find them a bit petty
But after seeing this very disturbing news about the apparent suicidal co-pilot who decided to crash the plane and kill 150 people onboard , I realize how utterly stupid I've been over the years and now I have a better understanding and greater appreciation of a serious issue that will make a person have a fear ( or perhaps even a phobia ) of getting on an airplane.
Safest way to travel is by air we're told ( and I believe it is ) but when a pilot basically decide to kill innocent people because , well , who the fook knows , it's totally understandable that so many people have a genuine fear of flying.

It's a crazy world ...

RIP

The worst part about flying for me is the descent and the changing pressure. Had an unpleasant experience of ear popping when I was younger.

anyone have any good tips to overcome the fear that the plane is too heavy to take off?

Cruising at altitude i'm fine with but the "strain" of the plane taking off freaks me out, especially cos if things go wrong not much time to do anything about it.

Got more chance of winning a jackpot lottery ten times in a row than getting kiiled in an air crash. I'd be more scared of getting hit by lightning when there isn't even a storm. All gonna die, why worry when...just that might kill ya!!!
Oh yeah and there are more than a few mental cases out there as well as natural born idiots!

Final Destination film made me scared of flying.

I just don't like the pressure on my ears, seem to have quite sensitive ears as it is...

TBH in most forms of transport I am pretty relaxed, even if I am in a friends car and he is driving like an idiot I just relax and enjoy the ride (I will slam down my imaginary break at the last second if I think we are going into something)

My theory is someone else is in control of the vehicle, I have almost no bearing on whether we arrive safely or crash and burn horribly, I have no power or responsibility over the situation... so why worry?

I can't change what is going to happen so I just relax and let it happen...

Its more true in a plane than a car though, I guess in the car I could warn the driver.

I'm not scared of planes but pretty much everytime I fly I'll have some deep and pretty insignificant thought that maybe the plane will blow up or crash or something, then again I bet everyone does it. I just don't pay attention to the thought as I know logically/rationally chances are slim. Having said that I'd be unbelievably scared if the plane got taken hostage or was on a descent into the Alps like the victims of this crash
