As I'm very nostalgic, I thought I'd talk about the disappearance of the trusty manual from our game boxes. Yes, I know they still exist but most are in the form of just outlining the basic control functions and that's it.
Gone are the days of the original Gran Turismo manual which included a number of pages of how to drive correctly round a corner. Or the Jungle Strike guide (on the Megadrive) which gave you a breakdown of almost all the missions. Or even the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion book which was probably one of the last manuals that was full of data.
I know it might be me getting all worked up over nothing but a journey to the bathroom always used to involve a game manual as my reading material. Overall, I think my two favourite manuals were Final Fantasy IX as at the bottom of each page, there was a little hint about how best to tackle the game. But the mother of all manuals was Deathtrap Dungeon. Not only did you get a manual detailing the storyline, the characters' past, the controls and information on every single weapon and pick-up, you were also supplied with a Bestiary. This contained details on every single monster and a little story about each complete with artwork. It was awesome.
I know it's probably a strange topic but I'm hoping that I'm not the only one that misses a good old game manual, if for no other reason than to entertain me when nature comes a calling.

Did enjoy my Aladdin (Megadrive) manual. Again some kind previous owner had filled it full of level codes (which came in very handy).

I won't check it out then. Don't want my memories spoiled! I wish games companies would give it a rest with remakes. I get sick of hearing about a remake of FF7 - Square Enix have royally fcuked up every game after 10 so I really don't want them doing anything to 7.
Weirdly, they made a remake of Dizzy: Prince of Yolkfolk a few years ago. It just looked to shiny for my liking....
(Also, I've never played Prince of Persia - may need to change that).

Agreed with the final fantasy X onwards!
I played 12 and completed out of willingness more than enjoyment and I've played 13 a few times on several occasions since it came out and it's utter shlte!
So I'm in agreement with you, they would completely destroy FF7 if remade and maybe they know they would so that's why they won't remake it!

Oh thank god they haven't done anything to it. You won't get the same satisfaction though as you won't be changing discs. Disc changing on FF's was a big moment!
