Lennon & Bolton - Is there a point?

Good afternoon fellow lovers of the Super Whites.

Question. Based on the fact we are a million miles away from the teams not even in the play offs, are we seriously expecting Neil Lennon to create a team capable of challenging next season?

Assuming we don't blag some investment, it's likely our budget will drop further as more top earners walk away from the club with a transfer fee coming in!? (Mills??!?!?).....

I'm reading that we are quite interested in signing Le Fondre and we could talk to Reading in the summer, as Neil Lennon believes he could improve the lad... In the meantime we've offered the duo from Cocoon new deals who frankly aren't good enough to score enough goals to get us promoted.

Is the Le Fondre fairytale taking any of you back to the Juke saga?

Le Fondre, Clough and Clayton will be far better to watch next season than the Cocoons. And score more.

Defence is the priority I'm told. Yet I beleive a back four of Baptiste Wheater Dervite and Ream are more than capable, assuming we have someone in midfield who can actually tackle.

Midfield?!?!? Danns..... Not a central midfielder. Feeney, not a footballer....

Lennon. Honeymoon over. Pick a formation, pick your players, and go for it.

Tough league the championship. Its an insurance test as much as one of skill. Most teams who get relegated struggle to adapt to the sat/tues grind.

Loans, bargain buys and frees will be our deals - there's a deal to bring in a defender already (Kuipers?) and I suspect there'll be more once we get a handle on who's stopping. Heskey and Gudjohnsen are decent stop gaps but will probably not be used as often as they have.

As previously mentioned by WF the budget is already nailed and Lennon seems like a guy who knows what he wants and how to get a decent deal - he wasn't exactly flush with cash at Celtic, (Cutting back after years of overspending). I expect some decent bargains.

What I don't hope to see is Baptiste coming back. I'd rather we built a scarecrow and played that instead.

WF .Yes it's sad news about Tierney
Along with Holden 2 players that we could have really done with over the last few seasons.
They could have made a big differance !!!!!!

Losing Holden probably cost Bolton a cup final appearance v man city and with it another uefa cup/europa cup run and a top 10 premier league spot and extra TV cash which could have made a difference. As it was we lost to stoke, lost momentum and finished bottom half-why we are where we are now.

Re the out on loan players. Not a fan of baptiste myself but looking at it from Lennons perspective he has had a problem at right back since he has arrived so he is going to want to at least look at him. Also baptiste would fit better than dervite in lennons 3 man defence. He would play right, ream left mills centre if he stays. Not sure what Lennon will do with our 'blue chip' signing spearing. He obviously does not want him. Fair enough a short term loan to get his wages off the books to fund multiple short term emergency loans but can Bolton afford to write off his £1.5m fee and loan him out again? Hall will surely be loaned out/sold for nominal fee. Not just he is not good enough but the by match appearance fee to west ham makes him uneconomical.Medo will probably move permanently to Israel on a free more money spent by freedman written off.

Hmmmm. Good article as aleays MT. Guess you are going for quality over quantity these days

I think it is safe to say that we will start next season with Lennon as manager. Personally, this pleases me a lot and fills me with confidence that next season will be far more interesting than this one!!

The way this season has fizzled out to an uninspiring conclusion was inevitable after the shocking start we had.

I still believe we have some quality in the current squad. Lennon is no fool, and I guess he has that ruthless streak required. If he plays hard-ball with the remaining dross and pulls off a couple of coups in the market, then we could be in for a good season.

I have every confidence that Lennon will get the best out of the players he wants to keep as well as adding a few decent signings. At Celtic he got the best out of the likes of Stokes, Hooper, Commons etc and also unearthed decent players such as Wanyama, Izaguirre, van Diijk and Kayal.

Alot will depend on keeping our best players fit, and bringing through the right blend of youth to keep the squad fresh.

We have the basis of a quite decent squad on paper and i trust Lennon to have a plan to get us to at least challenge for the playoffs

Echoed my thoughts exactly, Benny.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.

CEF - it's always been about quality!!! 👍

Must say, as a man who watched the 1990 playoff defeat to Tranmere and endured their fans laughing at us, I find it hilarious to see their plight!!

Wigan & Burnley being relegated and Bury failing to go up will make me smile a little also......
