It was billed as the fight of the century, the fight that would go down in history, the fight that would crown the undisputed P4P King. Whether it lived up to these statements remains to be seen but if there was any doubt about who the best fighter of this era was then this fight purged them all.
Two men who are adored for different reasons stepped into the ring on May 2nd knowing that they were on the verge of greatness and one small mistake could see it slip. So when the announcements were made and all the regulated requirements carried out, the two greatest fighters of our era stood face to face, with only one thing on there minds. Winning.
As the fight got under way we all had questions going into this fight, would Manny push the pace, would Floyd let the first few rounds go? Any indication of that was quickly removed when Floyd landed laser like shots on Manny whilst Manny was left swinging at the air in reply. The speed advantage was supposed to be Mannys but it was Floyd who looked quicker, sharper, slicker. He moved like a gazelle and stung like a jelly fish. Illusive, crafty and smart, Floyd racked up the first 3 rounds in a flash.
Manny who most thought would come forward with relentlessness was subdued and it seemed like for the first time in his career, manny knew that he was up against a whole different animal and the tools he had brought to the hunt might not be enough. However in rounds 4-7 we saw the abilities that have made Manny Pacquiao a feared fighter, he had Floyd up against the ropes and unleashed his famous lightening blur of combos to the body and he had Floyd going backwards with a Sharp left. As the crowd cheered on Manny and every punch he landed, the maestro opposite him done what he has done 47 times and made the adjustments. He pumped the jab, countered and kept Manny honest with the straight right, the money shot. Manny found life becoming increasingly frustrating. He had expected a toe to toe street fight, instead he had got a slow and orchestrated chess match and with Mannys pawns and bishops no where to be seen, check mate was imminent. Rounds 9-12 were rounds where both fighters had there moments but Floyds early lead was pivotal. Pacquiao looked mentally devoid of any ideas and hesitant and if there is one fighter you don't want to face when in that state of mind,it is Floyd Mayweather Jr.
As the fight wore on it was clear to see Floyd was getting more and more comfortable whilst Manny was getting anything but. When the final bell rang and both fighters raised there hands, the world knew the outcome.
Both fighters were amiable and in good spirits before the decision, a sign of respect between the two greats of our time. And so when the judges scorecards were read out and the words "still undefeated" rang out, greatness was clinched. As a boxing fan the fight was a technical master-class. The pugilist was in his realm and the challenger was given a harsh lesson in the number one goal in the sport. Hit and do not get hit. As the booes chorused around the arena, the real admirers recognised the beauty of what they witnessed. You cannot expect a average man on the street to understand the complexity of the Mona Lisa but a true fan of art will appreciate her for all her beauty. And on May 2nd that is what happened. The purists were delivered a performance that pushed the boundaries whilst the casuals were left unsatisfied.
When the dust has settled and the numbers are crunched, this fight will go down in history in terms of financial gain but very little else. It was billed as the fight of the century but it came up short for most. One thing however it did leave in the history books is the name of the undisputed King of our era. The man who stood above all others at the pinnacle of the sport. The king of kings.
Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Injury is not fake, they did wrongly denied him the shot.

Only in your deluded fantasies mate, but hey anything to string your career as a WUM out a little bit longer. What with your amazing power, granite chin and super fast hands maybe you should challenge Floyd for his next fight if you can get some time off your top secret government work?

I am bless with those abilities, but lacking a bit in the defensive departments. Only have the conditioning to do 3 rounds.
Maybe 5/6 years ago when I was in my prime.
