Canelo vs Kirkland predictions

It would be impossible to follow up the biggest fight of the decade with an even bigger show but this saturday we could get a fight that may not match the hype of pacquiao vs Mayweather but it certainly has the ingredients to be better value in terms of in ring action.

The two fighters going head to head in the main event are the Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez and the Texan bad boy James Kirkland.

--------------------------Tale of the tape-----------------------
-------------------Canelo-------------------------Kirkland
Age:--------------24--------------------------------31------
Weight:----------154------------------------------154------
Height:---------5 ft 9 (1.75m)-------------------5 ft 9 (1.75m)--
Reach:----------71 inches-----------------------70 inches-----
Record:---------44-1-----------------------------32-1-------------

Canelo alvarez has been a favourite of mines for a while now and he is a fighter that brings pride and excitement to fights. He has power in both hands and he has the speed to match. With some big wins over Trout, angulo and the much avoided erislandy Lara, canelo has proved himself worthy of being the next big PPV star. His defensive skills have improved everytime i have watched him and of course we know he has the offensive abilities with his effective counter punching.

James kirkland is a wildcard to tell you the truth. He has had his ups and downs in his personal life and he has chopped and changed trainers to the point where there has been no level of consistency. He has poor defence but his offensive skills are decent and he does possess power. However his chin is suspect to say the least and a terrible defence coupled with a poor chin doesn't leave you with much else to go off.

Prediction:
Simply put this fight will depend on what Kirkland shows up. If we see the best Kirkland and not the one that lost to ishida then he could give Canelo trouble. Unless Kirkland shows up with his A+ game, i think canelo will be too strong and too smart for kirkland. Canelo will use his boxing skills and pick kirkland off with some good inside and outside work. Canelo doesn't pressure you so he will fight in spurts and down the final stretch he will probably take it easy. Both fighters stylistically are very offensive and that makes for a potentially great fight but i can see Canelo getting the better of Kirkland around round 5-6 and then stopping him in the 7th.

Canelo win via TKO

"Dzinziruk had an equally impressive sounding chin going into the Martinez fight but we all know what happened there, amateur fights do mean next to f all in the pro ranks especially when it comes to punch resistance. Stevens is a good puncher but not a brutal punched by any stretch of the imagination, until GGG faces someone of real note i'll be apprehensive and calling him invincible is just hyperbolic nonsense."

Dzinziruk's amateur record wasn't even close to Golovkin's, Golovkin beat some of the best amateurs of recent time, same can't be said for Dzinziruk.

Anyway I know the pro game is different, my point was when you've never been down in nearly 400 fights and hundreds more rounds of sparring, you've obviously got a granite chin, especially when you consider Golovkin is an aggressive fighter and always comes forward, he's not exactly hard to hit

You're missing the point which isn't surprising; going into his fight with Martinez, Dzinziruk had not been dropped as an amateur, pro or in sparring so until Golovkin actually fights a puncher I won't proclaim he has a granite chin.

If you have watched boxing you would know the quality of Golovkin's chin.

He sees the punches he takes keeps his chin tucked in.

Doesn't even flinch when someone lands something big on him.

And he has been in the ring with the likes of Kovalev in sparring

Your point makes no sense you spas.tic, that might be why I'm missing it.

Dzinziruk didn't have the amateur pedigree of Golovkin, who fought at a lower level, there less likely to lose, get dropped etc.

Anyway believe what you want. If you can't see Golovkin's quality just by the eye test, it just confirms what we already know, boxing isn't the right sport for you.

Is that your stock reply to anybody who challenges your uneducated opinion?

Dzinziruk was actually a very accomplished amateur but i'm not at all surprised that you don't that.

I always find it odd how touchy people get on forums when somebody more in the know shows them up, I shouldn't indulge myself but you make it too easy.

I didn't say Dzinziruk wasn't a good amateur you complete spas.tic, what I said was he wasn't the same level of amateur fighter as Golovkin, his achievements weren't as great, he didn't fight the very top guys like Golovkin did.

You said the other day that if you had knowledge, you wouldn't feel the need to keep mentioning it. Yet here you are, bragging about how much you know

You're not ready for this level Ghost
