The only person I know of who said that he'd seen him regularly in France was Barry Glendenning (Guardian podcast) and he said he was not rated very highly at all in France and that Lyon couldn't believe the price they got for him. However I bow to your superior knowledge of French public opinion.

I can only go on what I've seen though. He was an able foil for Fonte in a cautious team and has been far from able for Liverpool

And players don't move from Lyon to Southampton unless Lyon deem them surplus to requirements

He got voted into the top 100 prospects in world football whilst with Lyon due to not being rated by them. OK then.

Nonsense. I suppose Remy moved to QPR as he wasn't wanted in France?

Simply the Premier League is more prestigious than Ligue1 and some players will start lower and work up.

Lovren has vastly improved past couple of months. Balotelli has been woeful nearly every minute he's played.

Balotelli takes that title I'm afraid.

Remy moved to QPR for money (70k a week) and his record at Marseille before the move showed that he was going through the motions. Again, in that situation, the selling club were very happy to do business. I don't think Lovren moved to Southampton for money

I'm going to (dis)agree with both of you

I think they were more than happy to take the fee from Soton, and I think Lovren was more than happy to move because prem wages are miles higher

Lovren is a poor defender

Doesn't read the game well, dives in and generally poor positional play. Apart from that well worth £20 million
