Miguel cottos predicament.

After a brutal KO win over kirkland this weekend,Canelo has now put himself in a position to fight the middleweight champion Miguel cotto, assuming he overcomes geale.

Cotto is left with two options:

Option 1:Canelo
This fight was supposed to happen this summer but due to negotiation issues it did not materialise. If cotto beats geale he will have to fight canelo or vacate the belt and retire. Cotto vs Canelo in my opinion is a dangerous fight for Cotto. Canelo is young, strong and quick and we haven't seen cotto face a fighter like that in a long time especially at this weight class. This isn't 147,at 154 these boys have power and size. I personally think Canelo would take him out.

Option 2:GGG
This fight is even more dangerous for cotto. GGG is considerably bigger and stronger than cotto and when those hammers land i can't see cotto surviving for too long. If he tries to rough GGG up he will get stopped,if he tries to box the bigger man he will get closed down and stopped, if he runs,he will get chased down and stopped. What ever strategy you can come up with it doesn't bode well for Cotto.

Thoughts on Cottos future at middleweight?

Yeah fair enough. Canelo will beat Cotto so an eventual middleweight unification bout between Canelo and GGG is very mouthwatering.

Interesting. I can understand Oscar wanting to protect Canelo, he's still young. I don't anyone stands a chance against GGG right now.

So Cotto against GGG next then I suppose, assuming Cotto beats Geale. Golovkin definitely wants that WBC belt.

Is Golovkin not Cotto's mandatory? So he'll need to drop his belt if he fights Canelo.

I can see Cotto vs Canelo though because GGG would waste both of them and they know it.

Cotto vs Canelo. GGG would destroy him with that punch power. Would be uncomfortable viewing.

Watched the Canelo – Kirkland fight yesterday, very entertaining. Is Demetrius Andrade in the picture to fight these guys? Only seen him once (battering Brian the lion)..

Cotto’s long in the tooth now & been in a few wars. I can’t imagine he’d be interested in GGG, he'd get hurt, as would Canelo at this point. If the Canelo fight is the more lucrative then I think we’ll see that, I’d back Canelo to win it too.

Is Golovkin not Cotto's mandatory?

Yes I believe so.

Nobody wants to fight GGG at the moment and I fully understand why. Cotto has never been known as a ducker but he can't fancy his chances at all against Golovkin, especially with such a size difference.

At the same time Cotto can't hang on to that WBC belt indefinitely. Maybe losing to Geale in June would be a right let off for him.

Cotto is the one guy I'd give a pass on avoiding Golovkin. He's fought everyone and is now coming to the end of his career, no point in getting his face caved in. But, in that case, just drop the belt so Golovkin can finally fight for it. It's long overdue and it's ridiculous how long he's been waiting for a shot.

As for Cotto vs Canelo, I can't see past a Canelo win. Cotto's on the way out and will get beat if he goes in against any top guy, he's had a good career though and would be a good fight to finish it

Canelo, being the bigger, faster, and younger fighter would definitely have the edge on Cotto but I think it'd make for an interesting and entertaining fight.

I've always liked Cotto so don't want to see him getting hurt by going in with GGG.

I think if he fights Canelo it'll be his retirement fight for one last big payday, whether he wins or loses.
