Team Spirit

I was watching Hollowords on SSN this morning, touching on this subject with reference to QPR.He was talking about a few bad apples, a Joey Barton comment.

I just watched recent interviews with Mahrez, Krameric and Wes. Noticed, we do not seem to have those issues and they seem like a very tight knit squad.Even when times were bad and we were making mistakes and losing games.Correct me if I am wrong but can not remember much finger pointing or blaming on the pitch.

This may be a big reason for our turn around in fortunes and just wondered what other peoples views were on this subject.

In all seriousness, this genuinely does all come from te manager. This is what Pearson is great at.

Creating a team is difficult. Pearson and his backroom staff research players personalities as much as their abilities when they recruit so as not to bring in any players that would unbalance the squad.

The result? JG gets frustrated when we miss out on some targets that we don't pay over the odds for, but we keep a fantastic team spirit.

By itself team spirit is not enough though, an Pearson almost, and still may have, failed this year by putting te right person ahead of ability.

That said, I was quite vocal against QPR's recruitment policy at the beginning of the season as JG was quite complimentary of it. One thing Redknapp is brilliant at is gathering a group of over paid prima donnas together who don't work. As people will know, I think se a poor manager who can't operate without money.

Pearson's recruitment policy is safe and sensible. He won't over pay and he will only bring players in who want to be at our club. He is then a superb man manager that gets the best out of players.

This still may not have been the right approach, but I tell you what - it's certainly a better one than QPR took.

We all know that TB is Pearson's biggest fan, but in this case he's right. This is purely down to the manager and his team.

You are certainly correct about 'arry. I've been saying it for years.

He quit QPR in a strop in Jan because Fernandes had reached the bottom of his big pockets. This would have meant 'arry relying on his managerial/football skills to keep QPR up. Something he knew was unlikely.

Arry de bung no surprise there.

As for team spirit we have it in bucket loads Cambiaso must take a lot of credit to. his last words to James as he was stretchered off was we will do this for you priceless.

All mangers big challenges are phase two bring in better player that are need managing because team spirit can only get you so far we need to improve and that's Nigels next test.

I feel a bit sorry for QPR in a way - their fans that is, not the club. I don't remember them giving it large, although I do remember the media outlets falling over themselves to praise them for some of their signings.

However, I've always objected to their transfer policy. This wasn't necessarily because I didn't think it important to invest - you do have to spend to survive in this league after all, and that's something that we all have to live with. But there were two big issues: Firstly that they weren't buying very good players (see Burnley as well, plus one or two of our own, coughUpsoncough), but secondly and more importantly that they were taking far too much of a gamble. The stakes were too high.

Taking risks is one thing. Buying Ulloa for a club record fee was a risk for us, same with Kramaric and Cambiasso, although credit should go to the scouting team for thorough investigation which mitigates that risk. QPR went off and brought in Rio Ferdinand as a marquee signing, despite the fact that everyone (except the excitable London media, it seems) could see that his legs had gone. Meanwhile, they build up more and more debt, digging a deeper and deeper pit for themselves should relegation happen. I don't know what Tony Fernandes' intentions are, but it wouldn't surprise me if he walked away because he's taken no responsibility for this situation happening. It's like he decided at the start of the season: "We'll go for it; if we stay up then great, and I'm still interested. If it doesn't work and we go down, it's not my problem any more."

They look like they're going to plummet now - they need almost a whole new team because they're all old and they'll almost certainly be handed a transfer embargo. They have a couple of assets in Charlie Austin and the massively overrated Caulker, but even selling them will make but a dent in their veritable mountain of debt. At least Burnley will have a Championship quality squad and no monetary issues - I don't think they'll bounce straight back but they won't have any problems next year. QPR I can quite easily see landing a double-relegation, sinking to obscurity and maybe even ending up in administration if Fernandes does walk away now. And this is the problem - it's the QPR fans who are left with this mess now that Fernandes has broken his toy.

Dung arn't you glad we never got Arry he loves to spend other peoples money i have a soft spot range park queens and there fans do not deserve this.

Harry Redknapp should have been England manager. That's the equivalent of having all the money in the world to spend on English players. He wouldn't have had to manage a budget and would have got decent players playing attacking, entertaining football. But anyway, that ship has sailed.

I don't necessarily agree that Burnley have done the right thing either though. While QPR have been too profligate (for years), Burnley have been too conservative. While I find myself quite liking Sean Dyche the man, despite the Leicester-shaped chip he has on his shoulder, I don't rate him as a manager. Let me remind you: George Boyd, Lukas Jutkiewicz, Marvin Sordell. The last two in particular were atrocious signings and he never gave the Premier League a real go. The only reason Burnley lasted in the race as long as they did was because so many others were bad for so long. Once the pace has picked up at the end, they've been left behind, showing Championship quality only and unable to score. Eddie Howe's team have achieved what they have and now they're in decline. This doesn't mean that they're doomed of course, and they'll go back to being a perfectly fine Championship team; but for me they never even gave it a proper go, and neither are they any closer to being a yo-yo team. They've gone slightly backwards this year and I can't see either them or QPR troubling the promotions spots next year.

Be interesting to see if Sean Dyche is still banging on about not being able to compete financially next season when Burnley are one of the richest clubs in the Championship with the parachute payments - provided he's still there, of course.

Almost certainly. He'll have brought in Lloyd Doyley and David Perkins, and he'll be complaining that he can't possibly match the spending power of Brentford.

Dunge, do you think we'll trouble the promotion spots next year?
