It's been fun laughing and poking fun at Gerrard over the years but one cannot deny how legendary this player is. What a player he has been for you guys and I support a club where loyalty is non-evident so I can only envy your ability to have kept your greatest player up till now.
In his prime he literally had it all - a great engine, an incredible shot, an aggressive tackle, a good ping and unreal bottle.
My favourite Gerrard moment was probably the 06 final when the lad had cramp and out of nowhere smashed it into the bottom corner late on, that was pure greatness.
If Gerrard played for United he'd have won everything Scholes won but if Scholes played for Liverpool you'd not have seen CL success in 05 I can guarantee that.
Gerrard > Scholes & Lampard
Farewell to an absolute great
One Of My Favourite Non-Gooners Ever

Fully agree, someone like Scholes could never have carried Liverpool at particular times that Gerrard did yet if Stevie was at United I don't think their success would've suffered, who knows they may have won more.
Prime Gerrard was an absolutely terrific player and certainly the greatest England midfielder of the 21st century.
I have nothing but respect for the man.
Of course if things go t!ts up this evening I'd owe him one last WUM
Great player overall

Nice post OP, much appreciated.
I can't help but feel a lot of sadness with the last of a very good crop of young players that Liverpool were blessed with leaving without a Premier League winners medal.
Thinking of the likes of McManaman, Fowler, Carra, Owen ect. Put them with Gerrard and it's almost unbelievable.
Sad day today.

In fairness to Owen he'll tell you that Stevie played a major part in his success. Think back to all the passes & assists for the goals right the way from youth level
Stevie also made Torres the worlds best striker and did wonders for Luis
He dragged those around him to new heights. Even Djimi Traore must have a 'I luv Stevie' tatoo above his CL medal picture

Yep, Owen's departure saddened me a bit. You had a spine to be proud of with Carra, Gerrard & Owen all coming through the ranks and I'm sure you'd have bagged a title eventually with those all growing together but it took you about 3-4 years to match/upgrade on Owen's quality when Torres finally arrived.
Real shame Owen ended up at United too I found that a tad distasteful tbh

Great player, full credit to him for spending his career at his hometown club, don't get the scholes bashing from the OP though, this is an article about Gerrard yeah?

Not bashing at all just making clear my opinion on where he stands amongst other English players of this era, giving justification as to why Gerrard tops both Scholes & Lampard solidifying my view that he's the best English midfielder of this generation

Yep, Stevie has been still is, a great player.
In his prime any EPL team would have wanted him.

All round player he had been the best
Viera beast player controlled midfield but attacking not as good same as Keane
Scholes and lapsed great attackers but both defensive side was not as good.
Steven Gerrard played left back right back wing striker etc. Complete player
