Stevie G looked more unhappy at losing...

Watching Gerrard leave today was tough. But, in all his interviews today, he looked more upset that Liverpool isn't the fortress he dreamed it would be. He still feels solely responsible but the team performance today was so dismal, it really dampened his spirit and made him leave on a downer.

If we had won the game, or at least put in a performance of grit, determination and effort, all the things Gerrard embodies, I'm sure he would have left on a higher note, confident that the team will progress and thrive without him. But, we didn't win and we showed qualities of mid table mediocrity, and I'm sure that's not how he would have wanted it to be.

Maybe as a Manager, he'll be able to influence the club more. Players will come to Liverpool because of his name and he'll weed out the players so obviously not good enough (Lovren, Johnson, Allen, Markovic, etc, etc, etc).

Come back, Stevie G, when your time is right and do as a Manager what you tried so hard to do as a player. Make Liverpool Football Club respected again.

Going back to the original point about Gerrard knowing that Liverpool's problems are just beginning, I think we HAVE to get rid of Brendan now. Luis Suarez's individual ability masked the fact that our team lacks ability but could maybe perform on confidence. Take that confidence away (Suarez leaving), the only player with true ability was Gerrard. Now he's gone, who is left to take up the fight? Hendo? Coutinho? Who???

FSG buy players who they think will flourish and then can be sold on for a profit, but whoever did the scouting needs to leave with Brendan. We need players with potential and immediate ability who can hit the ground running. Unfortunately, those players won't come to us because they know Brendan's ability to bring them Champions League is... limited.

Now, we're looking at the likes of Austin and Ings instead of the likes of Depay and Sanchez.

Currently we have no ability left, no faith in the squad and, will we even make Europa League next year? Serious questions demand serious actions. It's time to bring in passion, heart, determination, desire, hunger, willing, wanting and pride to make LFC great again. Ask yourselves, apart from Gerrard, who embodies these qualities in our current squad?

It makes no difference who the manager is. Building a successful side under the constraints of moneyball is next to impossible.

Are you seriously suggesting that the reason we didn't sign Sanchez and Depay is because Rodgers is the manager?

Why not?

Because it's stupid.

It's destroying being linked with a possible signing like Depay only to find out he's going to Man U because of THEIR MANAGER!!! We were offering similar terms to Sanchez but he turned us down, partly because Brendan, on the world scene, is still a nobody. The ability of the manager, the quality of the football, the experience and ability of the other players have to also be considered, alongside the money on the table. We can have the money but we are lacking in all those other areas...

He's been played out of position all season because him in defence has worked for us.
Let's just see what happens next season: god I hope we beat stoke otherwise this board will be poison all summer.
****
I can't see that making a difference tbh.

Depay called playing for a manager with his Dutch team mates a bonus. He has never said it was the only reason why he joined the club and to state it as fact is disingenuous.

I'm not saying that the manager doesn't play a part in a players choice of destination, but to imply that is this is the only reason Sanchez and Depay chose their respective clubs is absolute b'llocks.

It's par for the course for any player joining a new club to say he's looking forward to playing for his new boss. Why would they say anything else?

I believe that it is a combination of factors will will decide where a player goes to. The bottom line is that both Utd & Arsenal are more successful teams than ours just now. London also has a pulling power that Liverpool the City cannot offer, and is rumoured to have played a part in Sanchez' decision.

Blaming them solely not joining Liverpool because Rodgers perceived lack of profile is nonsense.

I'm saying Rodgers lack of profile, as you nicely put it, is a factor. I look at our team and I see no leadership, not even from the Manager. Our one leader is leaving. With no strong leadership in place, the future could be bleak. In order to turn things around, we need a manager WITH profile, who can motivate, envigorate and rejuvenate the players and the team. After 3 years of trying to do just that, with no success, I think Brendan has to go. He tried and, with Suarez smashing goals in from everywhere, we got close but close is not good enough. Time to get good enough, and it starts with the Manager...
