Ignoring what he missed this season I thought I'd look at how we coped without our one man team Suarez with just the half fit and stuttering Studge

Man Utd L 0

Not too shabby
It's not all doom and gloom afterall even with 3 losses to top4 sides (and him half fit for 2 of them). Unless he never makes it back onto the pitch of course, that would be bad.
Studge this season

Chelsea missed Fabregas and Costa for a huge chunk of the season but were unaffected.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmmm If they were unaffected then they didn't miss either of them did they.
I think what you meant was "Chelsea were without Fabregas and Costa for a huge chunk of the season but were unaffected".
Chelsea have in effect 2-3 players for every position in their squad. Of course they weren't affected by the loss of 2 players.

Chelsea were affected by the loss of Costa as well
They went from dominant goal scoring runaway champions to scraping 1-0s with shiite on stick football and a closing gap with the pack.

The defence looks better to me. We'd need to keep Sakho fit though but I actually still have faith in Lovren. He's got all the tools.
=======================================================
It has been better since the new year (though that coincides with Can playing there), but Moreno and Lovren were all over the place against Palace.
Midfield has been getting decent possession, and some prospect of finding space , especially through Coutinho, but you may be right.
I do think there's the core of a decent team there, but BR needs to get it right, this summer.

what is going on, a sensible comment and I agree with you BR must get it right this summer

What is this decent core?
BR does not have a clue. 3 years into his reign and we are in the same place. The squad overall is poor despite massive investment, The tactics and shape of the team is wrong. 3 CB's because we've brought such poor defenders and we still concede 3 to CP at Anfield
We need at least 6 players good enough for the first team right now
GK, CB. DM, RB, LB, CF

probably true Danny
but in hindsight, isn't it possible that his niggly injuries that made Gerrard think he was just a faker / püssy were the start of something a lot worse? or made worse when he played through them?

fair enough
I can't imagine a player not wanting to play if they could but maybe some do

Erm, ok, good one. The stats kinda prove Liverpool were in fact affected by Sturridge's absense. Lovely though it is to talk about Cesc and Diego, its not really relevant eh

Part of the work of a manager is to prepare for injuries and absences. We were ill prepared. Others were well prepared.
