Ronnie criticises standard of referees

Ronnie has criticised refereeing standards in the game of snooker.

He says the standard this year has been "below par" and that the referee in his quarter final defeat to eventual winner Bingham kept walking around the table.

"The referee who was overseeing my game with Stuart Bingham kept walking around the table while I was on the shot," he said.

What do you make of Ronnie's newest blast at World Snooker?

cracks me up when people are playing snooker and they get the hump someones walking around, is your focus that poor? sort it out.

Id wager that if in a pub ronnie would hardly perform differently to in a televised match.

Ronnie talks way too much and seems to have am opinion on absolutley everything. I do agree that he lacked match sharpness due to not having much game time though - he always seemed very irritable and distracted throughout the World Championship.

However at the end of the day blaming the referee for "not being able to concentrate" is a bit of a farce as you usually see them up behind players when the shot is being taken, not even in their eyeline. Hard to see how that can be a distracting factor. Also the Belgian referee who did the final (name evades me) did a top job!

Oliver Maartel - think that's how you spell it anyway.

Yes he does seem to moan about anything and everything at the moment, usually not even big issues either. If what he's saying can be backed up by other players then fair enough, but I don't think it will be.

There was something wrong with him last month.

1. Chalk on the table
2. Playing in socks
3. Smacking cue off the table

Six year ban for amateur John Sutton who was found guilty of match fixing. Happening too often in the sport.

I generally feel that snooker refs are top notch, anything that comes from Ronnie's mouth needs to be taken with a good pinch of salt.

As for John Sutton, there's a part of me that thinks that at the lower ranks, there's always been some dodgy stuff going on. I don't mean that every player whose not in the top 64 is crooked, but I guess snooker is a sport where it would be relatively simple to throw a match (to play a deliberately bad shot / miss a pot can be easily disguised). If you are a struggling player, not making much from the game, the temptation could be difficult to resist.

We all know it is wrong, but as in life you will get bad apples everywhere, and there may come a stage where say earning a few grand for throwing a match seems to solve a lot of problems.

I played snooker few days ago with my mate. It was black ball game, I had a tough shot to middle pocket and was lining up then someone from the table behind walks behind me when he knew I was taking my shot and it really put me off. I stopped and then regrouped but I made such a dull expression. Hate it when people are so inconsiderate like that! I ended up missing the shot but fortunately still won the frame. I was so tempted to shout at him lol.
