I hate to say this ...

... but I understand why Raheem Sterling would consider leaving.

Sterling is not from Liverpool and is not a Liverpool fan, so there is no club loyalty involved.

Liverpool have finished 5th and lost our best two players in the last two seasons.

The Top 4 have more money to spend, and higher profile mangers to help them attract the top quality players as well as offering Champions League.

The likelyhood is that the Top 4 will all improve their squads in the summer, and realistically Liverpool will struggle to break into the Top 4 next season.

Reagrdless of what we think, Sterling believes he is good enough to play for any of the the Top 4 teams, and will be challenging for trophies.

There's always a nice parting of the ways between player and club, Alonso, Hyypia, even Suarez,or there's a nasty one. By his very public and unauthorised announcements, Raheem, no matter what FSGhas or hasn't said, has chosen the latter, thus ensuring, a-la Little Mikey, derision for the remainder of his career, not that it will bother him, nor his nor his agents bank balances.
One can be forgiven for thinking that this is a case of his agent making a name for himself, thereby hopefully recruiting other sportsmen to his fold. I may be wrong on this, but I don't think so.
As a fan, I only want players who want, who desire, who would fight to play for my club. Nothing less will do for me.

The FSG PR machine have spun this expertly. He's been labelled as spoilt, greedy and ungrateful while ignoring the fact that he has legitimate grievances. Namely: the club can't compete for the league. We're not in the champs league. He comparatively low-paid. Him and Rodgers don't get on. He's played out of position. He's a Londoner. The club have leaked transfer negotiations to the press.

I don't think anybody at the club has suggested it's down to money, that's what the media have said and rivals fans plus those with an agenda, like yourself have chosen to believe.

BR and those connected with the club have suggested he wants to move on to a club who win more trophies, whilst Sterling has said the same and they've said they feel he has the wrong advice as Liverpool would be the best bet for his development.

Raheem wants to play in a 'team' that wins trophies whereas, Steven Gerrard was a player that won the team trophies.

As far as I can see, Raheem will prosper in a prosperous team. He is not, and will probably not be the type of player who can drag his team to success like Gerrard did.

I think we need a player who can thrive in adversity, a player who can lift the team and a player who can bring us success whilst surrounded by mediocrity. Will we ever get that player? I'm not sure. But it's sure as sh|t not Sterling.

Cash in and spend wisely.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Gerrard didn't win us too many trophies by himself at 19-20. Not very many players in the history of the game have done that. People seem completely oblivious to how good Sterling could actually be. I know that it doesn't change anything in terms of us keeping him, i just find it amazing that people can change their opinions on a player on the back of them wanting to leave.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The key phrase was the Raheem will probably not be. Not saying he should be that play now, I was saying I don't think he would become that player.

As for how good Sterling could be.....well I said that I think he will prosper in a prosperous team. I can't see us being prosperous in the near future. That's why I said sell now as his value whilst with us will only decrease.

His value will decrease? He's twenty and valued highly. Surely he'll improve and thus be valued even higher?

Ah OK.

Even with one year left, I struggle to see Arsenal, City and Chelsea letting the other get him on the cheap.
