After speaking with some friends last night I hear that Bentaleb is stalling over a new contract. Apparently he is holding out for more than 25k considering that he has ousted the likes of Dembele and Paulinho who are probably on double that.
I'm thinking that this move would be terrible for him because he is at a big club playing good football.
I really don't want him to leave, does anybody know the contract renewal situation with him? I know that his current one is up in 2018.

Ledleys Knee
If their contracts have that, then more fool the person who gave it to them. I would hate to think we'd give a player more money because their country picks them. It's ridiculous.

I see nothing wrong with it.

Fack mepay the lad what he wants. Future Captain IMO, someone who will be leading us out in the new Stadium, come through the academy, he along with Kane should be our 'poster boys' for years to come.
contract runs til 2018 i believe so no immediate threat of losing him but he does need to be tied down until 2020 at least.

Pay him what he wants? So if he said he wanted 100k a week you'd be alright with that?
As for future captain, based on what? Being an academy player? I don't get this thought process.

Do you watch Spurs?...only him Kane and Lloris are free of criticism this season. The rest have been indifferent. For a 19 / 20 year old he has impressed and is the sort of powerful CM who can lead from that role
....and of course I don't mean pay him 100k, I doubt he's asking for that but worth more than the rumoured £30k offered, especially as a new deal could tie him up for the next 5 yrs

my opinion is that we need to tie him down.
he is an important player for us.

He's played well this season, so that makes him future captain material? Really? Should we just pass it round then to whoever gets Spurs player of the year award then?

He'd be saying give it to Kane if that was the case.
You seem to be very snobbish about home grown players I've noticed. But happily defend someone like Soldado. Odd man

Bentaleb has earned a decent increase in salary with hsi performances last season, especially the one against Everton in the last game.
I dont think increasing him to at least 25K is unreasonable personally with yearly reviews

Grand
The wage bill is over 100m currently, and although not all is player salaries, a majority chunk will be. 100m divided by 25 players is 80k per week each. Even if only half was player salaries, the average would be 40k per week.
I know they are ridiculous sums of money to talk about, but I don't see him being happy with being offered less than average, when he is the first name on the teamsheet in his position.

As I said last week and multiple times, I don't care about the nationality of a player, all I'm interested in is the quality.
Bentaleb deserves no more than 40k a week IMO, and I'm yet to see anything that suggests he's future captain material.

Agreed and there are a lot on more money than him that I would gladly see gone to be honest
