Clearly leaked by his agent.

Where sterling has had a transfer value put on him at £50m which :

City don't want to pay
Sterling wants to move

Any headline that could result in a negative impact on the transfer value will be to Sterlings benefit.

Makes you wonder if it wasn't the agent that leaked the first ones, which were in a private residence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Or leaked by the club, to justify it when they flog him to City for less than their supposed asking price.

Interesting that with all the transfer speculation flying around at the moment there are only 3 firm bids that have been confirmed as rejected, and they all involve liverpool - two for sterling, and one bid for clyne - who do seem to have a nasty habit of conducting their player deals and contract negotiations through the press.

-------
What a load of crap, if we were going to sell for less than the asking price we wouldn't have, as you've said, turned down 2 bids.

yes, you might, because a story like this allows you to flog him for £42-45m and then instead of it looking like you are being bent over you can just start blaming the player's unproffesionalism.

my initial assumption with all liverpool stories is that it is the club itself leaking, because as i said you have developed an unpleasant habit, over the past few years especially, of conducting most of your business in public.

oh, and of course we only know what "the asking price" is because your club have leaked it to the papers, in public they say he is not for sale, in private he clearly is, at £50m. whereas no one here knows what the asking price is for clyne, or de gea, or other PL players.

well we're all watching!

my money would be on a deal with city for an "undisclosed" fee, which turns out to be less than the £50m figure being bandied about.

Considering learned folks on here saying he's worth £25m max, I wouldn't gripe.

He's also, by turning down £100k a week, saving us £70k a week.

You mean the same Clyne that Southampton want 15M for? Or the De Gea that Utd won't listen to offers below 25M for? And throw in the alledged release clause for Trippier at 3.5M? Why disbelieve those and yet believe the 50m Sterling rumour?
