1) There is just no loyalty in football anymore
2) Contracts are not worth the paper they are written on
3) All the power is now with the players and managers
4) Agents are killing the game.
When a foreign player comes over to play here it is natural maybe that they go back. It is forgivable when a player does this. This is clearly a progression in their career, but when a player moves to a club in the same league as a club that had given their full loyalty to them, it is something which most people will find unforgivable.
Players are all too quick to kiss the badge on their chest and proclaim their undying love to the team they are playing for, all for them to then jump ship when an influx in wages is waved in front of their face.
Whomever you support and give your unconditional love to, I think it is time to give up the ideology that loyalty is still around.
Put it this way, years ago at Palace a young Eric Cantona kung fu kicked a mouthy fan. If that fan and his mates had jumped onto the pitch to fight Eric - there would have been a pitch invasion from the United fans to protect him.
That loyalty and passion has been compromised - it was the reason I supported my club.
I miss it!

I think years back one of Spanish or Italian clubs was sniffing around Giggs (a long time ago)
Gerrard had 3 offers from jose at Chelsea, Inter and Real apparently
Le Tiss obviously
There are practically no examples of 'loyalty' (it's just a job FFS) in football.
I think it's fiction really. Sides sign players from clubs 'beneath' them and always have. Players always move when Real and Barca come sniffing.
Are players really loyal to Real/Barca or do players just realise the only way is down? I'd say the latter. If a better club existed, Messi and Xavi would have put in a transfer request.
It's a fictional fairy tale IMO

I would be surprised if no one has enquired about Carrick. I'd imagine an enquiry is as far as it's got though.

Look at cech, hes been a chelsea player for over a decade and is still a world class keeper and i dont see a whole host of chelsea fans that distraught because they have someone better and younger in between the sticks.
I dont think its a case of their fans not caring at all, I just think they dont particually mind and in that scenario i dont think any clubs fans would mind.

I don't care about other clubs.
We are not other clubs.
My support was about unconditional love - that is being compromised.

You get the odd player who is happy to represent a club for all (or most) of their career, for the likes of Giggs, Scholes and Nev it was easy because we won everything and they're local-ish lads who came through the system, if we were fighting relegation I doubt they would have stayed.
It's just a job to players, if they can advance up the pyramid and improve their wages at the same time then they will and who can blame them?
Personally, I don't think there is much (if any) loyalty in football, when a player is no longer useful to a club they get rid of them.
Even the fans, when a team is struggling attendances drop, when they win attendances rise. We see it with the FA Cup and play-off finals as well.
Lower league teams who get 2-3,000 every week suddenly find an extra 20,000 fans from somewhere to join in the good times when for the rest of the season they're not bothered.
