Chuckling at Liverpool.

Ok, perhaps a bit premature for a pronounced guffaw or belly laugh, but the potential for a good old giggle so early in the preparation for a new season?
A bit like shooting fish in a barrel, but I feel much glee to be had over the coming months.

Great price, good move for Raheem, hopefully Firmino can do the business.

MULDER! SCULLY!
IT"S ANOTHER CONSPIRACY!

If I didn't already think this was a good deal, I'd be persuaded by the number of fans from other clubs who are all bent out of shape about it.

There spinning on here it would seem.
On the one hand hes nothing special, and worth nothing like the fee, on the other, Liverpool have been severely weakened letting him go, because hes obviously that good, we will inevitably waste the money, which we were not even relying on to make further transfers, and so on, and so on.
The united board on here is all over the place.

Selling your best player to another Pl club can't be seen as a good deal, surely?

Yes the maximum profit was made from selling him, but in footballing terms Its terrible I news. Losing Suarez then Sterling two summers in a row sets a precedent.

United not about to lose last years best player then ?

Losing world class players to Madrid is expected, losing your best players to other PL clubs is not.

It's terrible news if he was suddenly going to sign a new contract and play out of his skin.

He wasn't.

You are not comparing like with like. Losing Suarez was akin to you losing Ronaldo: they were already established players with a big reputation, , but if the Spanish giants come calling, it's largely just a question of getting as much compensation as possible.

Losing Sterling isn't the same: he was an asset in terms of his potential, not really for what he'd delivered, so City have paid up-front for the potential, which may or may not materialise, so we've basically sold the risk, as well as the asset.

We're being told now that he was our "best player", but we had one player amongst the nominees for PFA player of the Year, and 3 the year before that, and none of them were Sterling. The awards he's been winning have been for 'Young Player', which reflects potential, not for 'Best Player', which reflects delivery of potential.

City have paid up front for potential which may or may not materialise (and if I'm honest, my own opinion is 'not', at least not to the tune of 49m), so it's a very good deal for us.
