Good bigot effort, but Protestants died in the famine too,as hunger was not based on theology you little sectarian bluffer.
Spu dz failed, due to blight, and not England,so grow up and stop making excuses for provie lover James.
Some brainwashed bigots about even today, sounding like Irish yanks, with no idea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The British didn't cause the potato crop to fail but they had a huge amount to do with the poor of the country being reliant on a single crop - and therefore vulnerable to the failure of that crop - in the first place AND made sure that grain and beef were exported from Ireland to Britain throughout the famine.
I think you should do a bit more reading on the subject before you try to lecture anyone else on it.

England made the Irish reliant on one crop...........really,and I know the well off looked after profit, but this was the rich in both jurisdictions.
Perhaps more a class issue than anything else, and as I say the blight was not a British Anglican plot, but fate of nature.
Protestants and Roman Catholic's suffered,so those who say it was an attack on Irish Catholic's are lying, and being bigoted, which was my point.
Ta for your lecture though.

James played for NI then opted for Eire,so his choice.
A baggies pre-season friendly, and you think Creggan rebels are going to go after him for what he did,or did not do..........oh ya.
James is playing in England, and will come across some traditions he may hate, but his choice, like his ROI decision,so act accordingly.
Plenty of guys from Jame's background play for and have played ofr NI,but the Creggan lad is being a bigot, and political, when we have all moved on.
Fek him,and his narrow minded publicity seeking.

I studied Irish history and politic's at Queen's in Belfast,got a 2.1,so I read da subject man.
You think there was a genocide planned to wipe the Irish out,or was big business just doing big business?
And,looking after their own interests,of course.

They did by grabbing the best agricultural land and leaving the peasant/subsistence farmers with land able to support very limited variety of crops. If someone steals the land you have grown crops and raised animals on for generations and leaves you with land only suitable for growing potatoes you don't have much choice as to what you plant.
Was this land grab motivated by religious hatred or by greed? Mainly the latter but it's always easier for the rich to crush people if they can point out how those being crushed are different from the majority - often because of their colour or religion - and use that to excuse their actions.
I, at no point, linked the famine to religion however you cannot deny it was a tragedy that the British ruling classes inflicted on the Irish poor OR that most of the British rich were Protestant while most of the Irish poor were Catholic.

Unfortunately everyone hasn't moved on, they should have but they haven't and I condemned McClean in not dissimilar terms to those you have used above as well as condemning those who have become so angry at his actions....see my first comment on the subject.

What a petty, pathetic, non-news, non-event.
To those bítching about it - grow up. We're not the USofA, it's a bit of cloth hanging from a stick nothing more nothing less.
To the player - grow up. You might think you come across as Michael Collins but you're acting like Rick from The Young Ones.
