This topic is always in and out of the press. Let's Ja606 it.
I'm ok with a license fee, but do feel it is overpriced in the modern world of streaming services. Shows like Planet Earth are amazing, but this sort of quality broadcasting is becoming few and far between on the Beeb.
I do have an idea that I think would make the BBC more palatable to the fee payers though:
iPlayer's range needs to be greatly improved. Every quality show should be backed up and available for viewing at any time... Imagine iPlayer that would contain boxsets of things like Blackadder / Fools and Horse / Planet Earth / Sherlock Holmes etc etc
It grinds my gear that I have to pay a service like Netflix to view things like the Royle family again. I have already paid for this content.
Unleash the full BBC catalogue (video and music) on iPlayer and the licence fee suddenly looks MUCH better value. The crazy server costs could be offset by selling the service abroad.
Thoughts?

I can't properly express how much I hate adverts, I would rather pay more for the BBC if it meant no adverts.
Something I don't quite understand is how when the choice before was pay for it or watch adverts, we've ended up with Sky where you pay much more for it AND watch fecking adverts.
We watched most things on download/catchup just to avoid the ads. I even start watching the footy late sometimes, just to fast forward through halftime to avoid ads and boring pundits.

I do the same. I don't have Sky, but with BT I set it to record then start watching at 13:00 so I can go straight through half time

Yeah ok, as long as we can only discuss the merits of the BBC/TV license - I fear we may disagree on some subjects, so best to avoid them.

Oh yeah, a psychologist would call them 'safe' topics. It's the bedrock of a strong relationship - bullshít and denial.
